I wonder… is Scarlet just feeling a generalized fear about ghosts and the unknown, or is there something in her part that’s making her react so strongly?
I’m going to assume you meant ‘past’. I think it’s more the generalized fear of something she, until then, thought was just two lovable doofus’ fascination, only for it to be frighteningly real.
That’s what I was thinking. Time means little in these parts. Timothy could die in a few years but gone back to this ghost hunting time to link to Scarlet.
I don’t think Timmy is an ænidiform para… but, anyhow, ewww! Thank you so much for reminding me of that song. Now I need to go drown my sorrows in brain bleach, and there’s not a drop of liquor in the house to help me get the bad taste out of my mind 🙂
Stuck in a room, my world caved in,
And every knows the only ones there
Were them and me and Tim.
When he broke through my ennui,
The only ones left to speak aloud
Were them and me.
Timothy, Timothy, where on Earth did you go?
Timothy, Timothy, God why don’t I know?
Thirsty as heck, and in his hand,
While Tim told me he had brought me some
Iced coffee in a can.
Gave me a shock, I couldn’t think.
And Tim said to me, “There’s this machine.
I thought you’d like a drink.”
Timothy, Timothy, broke the EMF gauge!
Timothy, Timothy, put me in a rage!
I couldn’t calm down I was overwrought.
They played their record of the sound.
It wasn’t what I thought.
My mind was as rough as it could be,
And none of us ever could explain
Why I heard Timothy.
Timothy, Timothy, I know what I just heard!
Timothy, Timothy, didn’t say a word!
Guessing that more than the fact that she may have been speaking to a ghost, the fact that she mistook the ghost for Timmy has shaken her to her core. She’s young and in love, and now that she couldn’t even tell the difference between a stranger and Timmy has put a core value of hers, her attachment to Timmy, into question. Is she really that in love with him if she can’t even recognize when it’s someone else talking to her.
The answer of course is yes, but that’s where being her still being so young comes into play. She probably still has a romanticized and unrealistic idea about love being all knowing and powerful. She really just needs some reassurance about her relationship right now.
Two people can have voices that sound alike. I went to school with a guy that sounded exactly like me. We could have past for brothers in appearance, as well.
My best friend and I sound enough alike that we’ve each mistaken voicemails left for ourselves for a message left by the other . . . and many people think we’re brothers. One or two even thought we were the same person, which was amusing and annoying.
I am 95% 85% 65% sure the ghost was the ghost of Timothy future.
Notice that he disappeared as soon as Timothy got back?
I think maybe he can’t be in the same room as real Timothy.
So… what did Timmy actually say, in the third panel? If the first “MM” is supposed to indicate a short syllable he might be saying “I” there, but what’s the rest of it? With the stress on the second word (as the “MMMPH” seems to suggest), and allowing the last bit to be two words slurred together, it might be “I know you do.”
“I moth my ewe” would fit the same stress pattern but it’s just a bit out of context for the scene. “I love your boobs” might fit, and would be consistent with these two characters’ relationship, but I don’t think he’d necessarily have said it just then, when Scarlet is in such obvious distress. “I’m passing out” doesn’t fit the scansion.
When you die, you have the chance to be reborn, not just be reborn after you died, but before you were even born, so yes, it is possible that a future self is already here, was already here before you were even here, and your first kiss was with another you trying something different
Point being: many people view Life as a linear stream (or a river), once you are in it all you can do is ‘go with the flow’, but, once you get out of the Life Stream, you can re-enter at any point
I’m reminded a bit of John Taine’s SF novel “The Time Stream”, published in 1932… one of the first stories I know of to deal with time travel via transmigration of souls.
“Beware Of The Beast” (which isn’t what one might think)

I dunno, that ghost really looks like an older Timothy. Maybe an older relative that died in the area?
Like I suggested last week, it’s probably one of Timmy’s relatives. Possible a cousin or an elder half-brother.
Ghosts of future past?
That’s what I was thinking. Time means little in these parts. Timothy could die in a few years but gone back to this ghost hunting time to link to Scarlet.
Or possibly something traumatic happens between now and his death, so he chose to go back to a time when his life was happier?
Did Bud miss the Sun with the Calendar Machine?
She’s not having a premonition regarding Timothy’s blood pressure issues is she…?
She doesn’t know it’s not a premonition….nor do we.

Is Timmy going to die and that it’s HIS Ghost she heard?
It could also be future-Timmy traveling in time . . .
We seem to be discounting the possibility that the ghost may be malevolent and was deliberately messing with Scarlet’s head.
Ghosts just want to have fu-un, ghosts just want to have fun!
Now, about querying the building superintendent…

I get mistaken for my dad over the phone pretty often. And he’s 30 years older than I am.
My best friend and I sound enough alike that we’ve each mistaken voicemails left for ourselves for a message left by the other . . . and many people think we’re brothers. One or two even thought we were the same person, which was amusing and annoying.

And, of course, Heinlein’s classic “All You Zombies”, which tackles time-overlapping from a slightly more mechanistic SF angle.
Oh to be an adorable little catboy smothered by boobs
Well whatever reality warping incursion is going on here it’s OFFICIAL:
“MM-MMMPH MMMNN” is without question the Funniest Line in this sequence.
Timmy is getting better with his blood pressure thing.
Keep in mind, Scarlet is a fox! 🦊❗
🎏I wonder if she has some japanese in her ancestry. 🎎
