it might not be so much it off limits, but you need permission of some form to be up there. perhaps only above a certain grade level in the school?

or given that this is not nearly a normal school, it is possible that it was designed off of an Asian school layout and no one ever thought about the roof before. one of those, no one ever asked where those stairs go to type things.

come to think of it, we know the library can be entered through other buildings right? maybe this roof top is part of the physical school building, while the interior is multi-dimensional? so they would have had to enter the building, avoid entering the school’s actual interior and climbed up to the roof the real building. or knowing that a spider had to show it to them, they could have flown up to it from the outside. part of the group can fly or poit on their own, and would be capable of carrying the others.

Hmmmm . . . perhaps this is the japanese branch of Griffin?

Given that everyone uses a portal to access the school (to the best of my knowledge), there’s no limit to where in the world the school is located. So, maybe it is located in Japan? Or similar Asian country? And/or just uses a Japanese-style school system structure ..? That could be a much superior base administrative & academic system to the American model, which would then be modified for para needs and advanced knowledge.

Seems to be within no more than one time zone either way from Mipple City…

… and the beverage of choice at the club meetings will be a nice big frosty glass of Scooby Dew.

    Hilarity and hijinks shall ensue!

How about a ghostbusting club? You could call it PARA-SHOOTS! *rimshot*

Nice panel! And I like the way it coincides with discussion of possible non-physical beings. … Though for young Paras, this club might be more based on direct evidence (and interviews?) than it would be at any other school.

This is the second webcomic I read I’ve seen mention something like this. Is requiring kids to be in some kind of club something that schools do, now?

It’s not uncommon for some types of schools to encourage extracurriculars. But I’m not aware of it being a requirement in most american schools. At least, not public schools.

It’s an anime trope (like the rooftop gathering) based upon very common and traditional Japanese school system practice.

its an anime trope. (its reality is somewhere between the trope and American schools)

The shadows are wrong. Does that count as “spooky stuff”?

I already see it before me.Every ghost they will find is a)a student, b)a teacher or c) the janitor.

No good can come of this.
What if they prove that one of them doesn’t exist?
    It would kill her!

    Oh wait……that’s already happened….I think….

    But… the whole school is…
Well, they’ll either be extremely busy or only record stuff that they consider weird.

Which means it’s basically an excuse to hang out with each other while fulfilling some requirement to participate in a club. “Where can I find some spooky supernatural creatures to observe? Oh yeah, my friends…”

I don’t think she means that joining a club is literally mandated by the school, just that it’s something middle-school kids do. It’s more playing with tropes, http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/JapaneseSchoolClub and http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SchoolClubsAreSeriousBusiness in particular. (TVTropes links in clear for your protection.)

Anyway, let’s hear it for the Mini-MIB. 😀

I can’t speak for joecrouse, but I’ve been reading all the comments (on pages that have them) and most of the forum threads for each comic, so that’s slowed me down considerably.
