So what do you think is going on, Castela?

I’m not convinced she has a different theory, or even thinks the “helpful advisors” surrounding her are wrong. She’s just really reacting badly to the patronization.

Ugh, if you dont like links… :/
This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.

There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.

Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.

Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody’s job.

Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn’t do it.

It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

Does it wreck the story if it turns out Nobody could do it as good as Somebody?

Drakkenmensch – the problem is, somebody thought anybody could do it!…
        and nobody could be bothered…

the problem with ‘nobody’, is they do not exist.. 😛 🙂

She stills seems a bit stunned. Though I’m not sure whether it was be Castella’s outburst or if it’s Selene fear-groping her from behind.

Wow I so understand this feeling. Its so very hard when whatever is really deep, but no one will give you the time to dig out what’s at the bottom of it. I do hope Cas gets support & help to navigate all the conflicting pushing both internal and external.

But during puberty emotions are elevated to ridiculous levels. I remember the feeling of carrying around feelings so heavy I couldn’t understand how it was I was able to stand up. And when I tried to explain words seemed unable to convey the feelings.

The worst part was probably that most of the time I managed to corner someone long enough to actually work out an understandable explanation I ended up realizing that it wasn’t something that threatened the world, my family, or even me. Actually it was rather ridiculous.

Usually this ended with one surly teen, that’s me, going on the defensive claiming that they didn’t understand anything. Then I’d walk away looking for somewhere to hide while lamenting on how unfair they universe was.

        February 24, 2018, 12:28 pm | #

The hard part is, because of those heightened emotions, adults can come off as patronizing even if they aren’t intending to be. I know both of my parents came off that way from time to time when I was navigating puberty, to the point were I made an (mostly for show to get them to *listen*) attempt at running away from home.

It was over the top, involved me trying to outrun my Dad’s car, but it succeeded in what I really wanted. Both of my parents sat and listened to me vocalize everything I was going through at the time that they’d either dismissed or hadn’t let me work through before offering “advice” before. I was still in trouble, but understood why and was more relieved that I’d finally been able to communicate everything. My parents were better about listening after that too, my sister had an easier time when she was going through puberty a few years later cause our parents still had a fresh lesson in how to handle things

In a, lamentably canceled, Lovecraftian Webcomic called Shadowgirls, an outright EVIL character made repeated use of “Poppet” with similar effect.

In all but the absolute most extreme cases, chemical intervention on an already unstable chemical system is not a good idea. Magical pills to forcibly calm a Whatsit seem like a really bad idea.

Perhaps it’s time for some Punk Yoga classes. Get Cas the tools for regulating herself. It would be nice to drop in with Jacqui again as a bonus.

Puberty or not, her growth is going to have different reactions than anyone else alive. Just saying “it’s puberty” when she’s trying to explain what’s going on is like trying to tell your symptoms to a doctor and they interrupt going “It’s the flu, everyone has it”. It MIGHT be right, but if you’re not listening to everything then you might miss something important that could cause things to go sideways.

What if Castela is correct? What if it’s not puberty at all (or not just puberty)?

What if it’s part of her “weapons programming” now being activated? We know that she was genetically engineered to be almost indestructible and to be able to kill Fae, and Hiroshi is the first (half) Fae she’s encountered since originally meeting Cricket. What if she finds herself “programmed” to go into a state of uncontrollable rage, and cut a smoking swath of destruction through any Fae that she encounters as an adult?

Bruce Banner hated The Hulk’s violent nature, but at least it was random and its original cause an accident. It’s been tough for Castela knowing that she was deliberately made as a powerful weapon… it would be awful for her to now learn that she’s a weapon which can’t keep itself from being fired.

    Hope I’m wrong about this.

        December 7, 2017, 11:31 pm | #

That step came for me at chest level…very suddenly.

I soon found out dormant genes on my Dad’s side of the family had switched on…

…because parenthood came to find me.

Couple that with Atsali-level inability to read social cues and expressions, and BOOM.

Thank the nerds that science for they made stretchy workout gear that saved my sanity.

I half want to see someone in the cast giggle and say that to Castella in the middle of her freakout…
…I suppose it should be a member of the cast who can survive being punched through seven stories of a high-rise. Maybe Monica? She has that odd reset-to-age-29 thing going, doesn’t she?

      POW!
Cas: “OMG! Auntie Monica! I’m SOOO Sorry!!! Are you aliv– um… alright?”
Monica (stands up out of the rubble, cracks her neck side to side, dusts off her clothes). “Well… at least you’ve calmed down a bit now, but we have GOT to get that temper under control, sweetie.”
Cas: “I know, I know… man, you don’t even have a scratch on you except for your ruined clothes… did your hair get darker and your boobs sag less?”
Monica: “Good eyes. You might say you beat eight years out of me.”

Kat (whispering): “Um… you explained this to me once before, but if you’ve reset to age 29, doesn’t that mean you DIED?”
Monica (also whispering): “Yup, but do you think I should tell our little Pickle that?”
      Kat: “Oh fuck no!”

What sort of para is Selene? The same sort as Skylar, if Skylar’s father is human; but what sort is that? Selene’s been an off-camera voice before when Skylar was in the spotlight; but she’s only been on-camera in these last four comics. As Xerxes Aragon pointed out, she has wings (or so it appears); cheiropteran-like wings, like a bat or a pterodactyl.
