I think that Cricket is referring to Monica’s mother, Grandpa Sullivan’s daughter. Though why, I am not sure. Though I am beginning to believe that Grandpa Sullivan had stronger ties to the paranormal world than a romantic dalliance with Jin in the Yucatan. There have been hints that he could poit (he took Monica to the sandbar originally, teaching Monica to skydive at 13,000 feet, and the whole incident of the Harley Liberator and the German camp in WWII — nothing that requires poiting, but hints), and that Monica inherited her poiting ability from him, through her mother. Maybe Monica should have talked with her mother, following the calendar compression.
Remember, Kath is paranormal through her ancestry — she’s a 6-in-1 Anasazi found in the wreckage of a crashed missile test, and whose mother is a vampire.
Darn straight! Do any of our fellow commenters ever LOOK out a window in *our* universe?!
Bipedal Digit would not look out of place among all the modern, crazy-looking Homo sapiens[es].
In winter, one of those lumberjack hats with the earflaps would do nicely. Get one custom made by a para-friendly craftsperson to make sure her pedipalps could be tucked under the flaps.
Reading it written like that, it sounds like the opening to a prophecy.
(actually, the cadences remind me strongly of the prophecy about Owen Z from Monster Hunter International.)

I don’t think she sees the para community as rejecting her – i think she means that, since she’s not actually a para she will have no ability to look human.
Re-reading it myself, i wonder if being a part of the community is how you get the ability to mask – that it’s not necessarily inherent to all paras, but it’s sort of like herd immunity, something you get from the community.
Wonder if some of Atsali’s Aunties can lean on the magic and persuade it to take her on as an honorary para.
I love head coverings.. they were so pretty… I didn’t buy hijab when I was in iraq, but I would by scarves (just.. I dunno,I like to collect them from all the places I’ve been…). pretty, pretty..
You’re under the Jaguar Girl’s, and by extension, her friends, protection now, kiddo. Anyone or anything that tried to harm you would have to be be either incredibly brave, incredibly stupid or immensely powerful.
Well, *this* human would give ‘er a hug, if ‘e found out about ‘er.
…Though I’ll admit being nice to the black widows I find. And we always used to play with the brown recluses that’d crawl out of air vents when we were kids… Ahh, fun times.
Calling Aunt Katherine!

I didn’t notice that Cricket was making a call, and ‘Jugs’ could refer to either Atsali or Monica.
Jugs is Cricket’s nickname for Atsali.
I see the nickname has passed from Monica to Atsali. xD
No – she’s calling Atsali.
Apparently Katherine is the Designated Lost Kitten Succorer.
Castela’s a hybrid, and in a way, so is Digit.
Sounds legit.
Once upon a time it was a teasing nickname for Monica by some of her friends too.
I don’t recall that.
Not that i’m saying it’s not true, just that i don’t recall it.
What I remember is “Pechochi.”
Juggs? HA! Calista should talk; she doesn’t exactly have the smallest knockers in the world…
Yep, but that goes allllll the way back to their first meeting. =)
True, but we’re talking the Wapsi universe here.
She doesn’t have the size (by far) to even be noticed (after comparison).
Good plan. Send her to the woman who collects spiders.
Send her to the woman who collects lonely waifs
And spiders, though I’m sure she won’t keep Digit on pins and needles!
Grant, you owe the Pun Jar bigtime.
If I remember she was scared of actual spiders but collected them otherwise.
I think she stated she was as fascinated by the things that scared her as she was frightened by them.
Hah! Calling the only human in the bunch.
Six of them in one, no less!
Remember, Kath is paranormal through her ancestry — she’s a 6-in-1 Anasazi found in the wreckage of a crashed missile test, and whose mother is a vampire.
The Anasazi were human, and Lily wasn’t a vamp until after she died.
That sounds like something a French Taunter would say.
There’s Amanda, still, although she’s had run ins with Digit already.
Jacqui, well, I still have suspicions about Jacqui.
The first time Shelly, Amanda, and Jacqui met Katherine, they all reacted badly to Kath’s mention of her collection.
A pinboard full of spiders, including a still wriggling new acquisition, in a bar? With Katherine still in her Grudge phase? yeah, they were spooked.
I was more picking out the remaining humans in the cast. As I said, I have suspicions about Jacqui.
how would she even hide the noticeable spider parts? glasses and a hair tie?
That or a Fae glamour charm.
any further magic is stated to be unpredictable. Another charm would probably react rather interestingly with the broken talisman.
“…, & This is our friend Digit; she never gets enough of CosPlay…”.
She grows her hair out a bit, then styles it so her secondary eyes are covered, and her pedipalps appear to be dyed and styled.
Actually, for the last three comics her pedipalps have been concealing her secondary eyes quite nicely. At least from our viewpoint.
Darn straight! Do any of our fellow commenters ever LOOK out a window in *our* universe?!

Me I’m thinking a hoodie and wraparound visor sunglasses. Or custom goggles.
In winter, one of those lumberjack hats with the earflaps would do nicely. Get one custom made by a para-friendly craftsperson to make sure her pedipalps could be tucked under the flaps.
Oh, and she could claim the black coloration of her main eyes were black contacts, a style choice. That just leaves hiding the secondary eyes.
Jaguar Girl here.
Friend to the two most powerful sphinxes.
Friend to the Golem Girls.
Aunt to the Blackthorn.
Beloved of the Men in Black.
You think Samson in the temple was impressive – let someone try to harm someone Monica is protecting
Just ask Georgette’s demons…
note that Monica’s power is to subject them to their worst fear… : o
Basically… look at the cast list. Give or take a few, that’s the list of people M can call on.
Whoah.
Reading it written like that, it sounds like the opening to a prophecy.
(actually, the cadences remind me strongly of the prophecy about Owen Z from Monster Hunter International.)
Another MHI fan!…
But also terribly insecure and often clueless. She did leave the magic ring out where Digit and Dietzel could get at it.
In winter, one of those lumberjack hats with the earflaps would do nicely. Get one custom made by a para-friendly craftsperson to make sure her pedipalps could be tucked under the flaps.
Posted that in the wrong spot :/
Interesting that Digit sees the Para community as being likely to exclude her.
That said, she’s how she is by Fae magic, so she may well be considered a Fae problem.
I don’t think she sees the para community as rejecting her – i think she means that, since she’s not actually a para she will have no ability to look human.
Okay. I’d read that as two seperate clauses: Being able to mask, and being officially counted as a Para.
Re-reading it myself, i wonder if being a part of the community is how you get the ability to mask – that it’s not necessarily inherent to all paras, but it’s sort of like herd immunity, something you get from the community.

A hijab would do the trick. She could even pass herself as Muslim. Heck, she could become Muslim, who knows.
I love head coverings.. they were so pretty… I didn’t buy hijab when I was in iraq, but I would by scarves (just.. I dunno,I like to collect them from all the places I’ve been…). pretty, pretty..
It’s gotta be Katherine that she’s calling. When she was first introduced she was all about and even called the spider lady right?
Well, actually, she’s calling Atsali – “Jugs” is her nickname for Atsali – but she is asking to talk to Atsali’s mom, Katherine.
Okay, let’s take stock. They’re all people who are very—very!—careless with dangerous paranormal gear.
Hurray for Calista thinking like I did! (Or is it, “Congrats, self, you called it like Calista!”?)
You’re under the Jaguar Girl’s, and by extension, her friends, protection now, kiddo. Anyone or anything that tried to harm you would have to be be either incredibly brave, incredibly stupid or immensely powerful.
And even then, my money’s on Monica.
Then they’ll have to call Aunt Jin, for documents.
Well, *this* human would give ‘er a hug, if ‘e found out about ‘er.
…Though I’ll admit being nice to the black widows I find. And we always used to play with the brown recluses that’d crawl out of air vents when we were kids… Ahh, fun times.
Wait until we see Katherine’s reaction when she hears from one of her daughters that Digit will be at the same school as them 🥴
