How long did we all believe that our blanket would protect us from monsters?
It’s part of a D&D adventurer’s kit for a reason.
It’s a well-known fact that bogeymen think anything under a blanket does not exist. Therefore, throwing a blanket over one puts it in an existential quandary and gives you time to take it out.

Because what children mispronounce as “boogyman”, when said properly, is “ravenous bugblatter beast of traal”.
