Mid-Week Break

My shoulder wasn’t as painful to sleep on last night, mostly keeping it close to me or wrapped in the blanket so I wouldn’t move about too much, but still sore. The exercises given by my doctor have done nothing for the feeling of instability. Will be following up with a new doctor and possible physical therapy. Shooting for a comic Friday. ^_^
I love Ruri. For someone in such a weird situation for her, she handles it remarkably well.
That and she is one of the more modest-figured girls in the cast (I hate to say it but I find all the boobage somewhat distracting. I know it’s Paul’s style but that’s just me.)
Paul, stability is one of the more important things when you’re injured. Stability prevents further injury.
I see an acupuncturist for my rotator cuff and knee, and the feeling that it’s not gonna fall out from under me or get worse makes it heal much faster. Good luck, and don’t sweat the comic. We’ll wait.
Of course Ruri is calm and collected — she’s the result of repeated tea rituals and servings. All that calming, self-controlled behavior would affect her personality as it formed.
What I’m wondering is what sort of tea ceremony she could perform on her own. Or maybe what sort of magic-like effects she could produce while performing a ritual like that.
Ruri’s appearance is also loosely within the framework of the ideal Japanese beauty archetype; the “Yamato Nadeshiko”. Long, straight black hair, modestly curved, petite body, pretty, but understated face, composed, calm, shy, quiet personality.
In a medium that often animates girls with hair all the colours of the rainbow, and still asks you to accept that they’re all Japanese girls (unless told otherwise) presuming there’s enough characters to go around, there will almost always be at least one “Yamato Nadeshiko”, character, fitting the description above. The hair might be a slight colour shift, but still fairly dark, long, and straight.
Very often she’s the first or second option for the male lead’s love interest too (presuming the relationship with the loud, bossy, tsundere girl who probably has a red-spectrum hair colour goes nowhere).
Shoulders are tricky. Be careful, and if it’s feeling “loose”, be especially careful.
Even half-artificial shoulders can have issues.
Same well-wishes as always.
Sorry to hear about your shoulder. Is it a sports injury?
All cases are different and the shoulder is a difficult part to treat.
My wife had pain in the shoulder. One doctor said, a tendon is permanently swollen and wanted to remove a bit of the clavicle bone end. That sounded a bit drastic to me. Another one set an injection of cortison to reduce the inflammation and swelling. That totally did the job. 10 years ok now. Don’t get confused. Just listen to different opinions. Get well!
Not a sports injury; Paul hurt himself trying to draw small mammaries. It takes more restrictive movements, and appears to be more difficult than it looks. We’ve been trying to get him to go back to drawing with his feet, but he insisted on buying a Wacom pad instead.
What about drawing with the pen between the teeth? Or behind an ear? Stuck it into the nose might work too, there are so many possibilities…
I had a loss of mobility in my right shoulder and pain with certain movements. I consulted with my health primary, and on advice went to a physical therapist. After a couple of months of treatment I was back to full movement and free of pain. Ask your primary who is well-regarded in your area. Good luck!
She is neither short nor stout though 😛
Bet she still whistles when she gets ‘heated’ 😉
I think Alana’s going to find out in a second.
I hope your shoulder heals, soon, Paul. This shouldn’t be hanging on this long. I’m glad you’re trying a new doctor and hope they help.
be well soon.. an as others have said… we can wait.!! please don’t push it.
Ruri looks like shes got more energy today…
“I’m a little teapot, short and stout here is my handle and here is my….other handle?! Darn it, I’m a SUGAR BOWL!”
“Really enough to make you want to puke your guts out.”
I seen to have some memory of that being part of a Saturday Night Live skit.
I believe said skit included Gilda Radner.
Shoulders are tricky and they can take quite a while to heal. My current primary doctor gave me multiple options to treat an impingement where the cartilage in the joint was swollen to a point where it almost completely prevented movement of the arm. Having been punctured and sliced enough times by accident over the years (construction + natural klutz), I elected physical therapy instead of surgery or injections.
It took close to a year to get from roughly 10% usage back up to 85% mobility. It was painful and unpleasant but the staff at SoCal Physical Therapy was awesome and really took care of me. Penny-pinching insurance co decided that 80% was good enough and wouldn’t fund any further therapy, but the crew at the therapy center gave me a detailed a list of the stretching/strengthening exercises so I could keep them up on my own. It’s been a little under two years now since the arm was screaming at me while hanging immobile in a sling; I’m somewhere near 98% mobility and holding strong.
So please don’t try to rush the recovery too much, and if any doctor tells you that “you’ve just got to expect less mobility as you age” as my former doctor did, then immediately ditch that idiot and seek out a more competent and caring doctor.
I heard that in USA even with a health insurance you have to give 100 bucks to the receptionist just for the right to shake the doctors hand. Is that correct or is somebody pulling my leg?
Groan…. sometimes it’s only $25-50 to shake his hand. Then the insurance company gets to tell you whether you get to be treated or not, depending on how much money you make and give to them. Could that be bribery or extortion? Then you get to try to convince someone on the phone that they should pay for it – someone who likely gets a bonus based on how much money they save the company. I remember a Voyager episode on this subject.
Shoulders can be tricky. Sometimes the smallest thing can cause you a lot of pain. I slept with my arm at a weird angle for one night only to spend more than two months feeling pain in my shoulder anytime I tried to lift that arm. It wasn’t that there were any real damage, and I could lift the arm and do just about anything but it hurt bad.
I can compare the pain to how it felt when I crushed my elbow. That was real damage. The elbow was mangled into shards and it took a team of surgeons several hours to put enough pieces of the bone shard puzzle together that it was able to work somewhat like a normal elbow again. The weird thing is that wasn’t much more painful than my shoulder, go figure…
If it can hurt that bad when there’s no actual damage done then I can imagine how bad it might feel when there is actually something wrong with it. Take care and make sure you’re not causing any unnecessary damage. Pain is usually the body telling you to stop doing whatever it is you’re doing, NOW!
Exaggerating. Slightly.
They are describing “Co-Pay”, something that civilized countries can get along without…
I ^love^ Ruri’s eyes!
I wonder if Alana is a Para also (and if so, what type?)
Alana is a harpy. =)
