She was aware of him a few strips ago when he flew up behind her and startled her, and it would be hard, even for a baseline human, to not notice the sudden existence of a human sized object right next to them.
Its fairly easy to tell the sex of most butterflies.. usually some visual difference, for example, male monarchs have a black dot on their lower wings.
Males and females DO smell different.
Males tend toward a sharp scent, whereas females toward a sweet scent.
Especially true in the bathroom. You can tell the gender of the last person to use a toilet, rather easily.

Also children smell different than adults smell different than senior citizens.
And strangers smell different than family. Especially on hot summer days.

well think about it reggie (as a moth/ butterfly) is attracted to casta. because she’s basicly a plant. bees do most of the pollinating of plants but some moths/butterflys help they too like pollen and necture . So that being said , maybe reggie is going to like casta in this form also.

The food chain doesn’t go cleanly from class to class. There is no King class of the animals, that eats the next down, that eats the next down.
Insects, such as wasps, are known to eat spiders, and spiders are famous for eating insects, (including wasps.)

I can imagine a comedy of errors where other characters see humani-form Reggie, but he always flips back to butterfly before Castela sees him.
Or he declares himself her protector and stays butterfly until he’s needed, turns humanoid, kicks someone’s ass for threatening her, and goes back to butterfly, all without her noticing.
If the history of this strip holds true, he’ll not be a main character. Timmy’s the only recurring male character with a speaking part, and unless he’s directly involved in the storyline, we never see him.
If Reginald is actually a Fae, sent in transformed disguise to keep an eye on Castella as she grows into her power (as some have suggested) he may be thinking “Oh ****, my cover is completely blown, and my bosses and the Queen are going to be so angry!!. I’m as good as dead… goodbye, career. I’m going to be spending the next five hundred years sponging out septic tanks, and shoveling the poop out of the dire-wolf cages.”
Reginald being a Fae “observer” would tend to explain how he kept getting in to the canyon and how he survived being crushed in Castella’s hand. It would also make a good learning opportunity for Castella, that she can actually be friends with a Fae.

No, I’m saying she grew up as a predator in a “kill to get your next meal” situation, some if not many of those animal instincts probably still drive her personality. You grew up as a human in a world where you didn’t have to literally hunt down and kill your food, she did.
Castela made a point of saying that this sort of root beer has magical properties that most people don’t know about.
My guess is that the root beer itself didn’t transform Reginald. Rather, he was already operating under some form of spell or enchantment, to take on a butterfly form, and that the root beer’s magic interfered with that spell and broke it… thus restoring what may very well be his normal form.
Right. Given his tendency to show up places he shouldn’t be able to get into, plus his ability to survive getting squished by a top tier para, I doubt Reggie was ever a normal by non-papa standards butterfly.

The only male character with a speaking part is Timmy, and he only shows up in the background or when he’s directly involved with the plot, like when Paul needed a male in order to have a teen love drama fdor Castella to have to deal with. He’s barely showed up since except for being Scarlet’s arm candy, and Scarlet herself isn’t much more than a supporting character, IE “Castella’s friend”

Heck, you could trim off the first year or so, and never realize the strip wasn’t always about supernatural entities living in a human world.

The second is, is there any answer to that which isn’t all sorts of wrong?
