I love the fact that she is swinging a 2 ton anchor like I would swing a whiffle ball on a string.

I’m left curious now as to why Bud and Brandi might have thought Stinky was dead…

      March 30, 2011, 8:19 am | # | Reply

Tepoz locked the GGG (well, Bud and Brandi, anyway) away sometime before he was turned into a statue so people wouldn’t be able to exploit them anymore; that might have been 500 years ago or even longer. We have no idea of the lifespan of tentacled sea monsters…

      • Kermit
        March 30, 2011, 1:41 pm | #

        Wait a minute…

Can’t be 500 years or more – these anchors aren’t that old. Surely in the last 250 years or so? And Bud knows about it.

Or perhaps ancient Lanthian ship tech?

It may not be the same toy as before but Stinky always carries something around with him as a play thing.

        March 30, 2011, 3:50 pm | #

Good point, Pablo. That’s a stockless anchor, which didn’t become common until the 19th century; it’s unlikely to be much over 100 years old. But the ocean floors are littered with nautical detritus. Stinky has plenty of toys to pick up.

Its a form of slang, when you have not seen or heard of them in ages….

Even some small celebrities have been reported dead, for them to go on a tv show…

“rumors of my demise have been grossly mis-reported… :/

      • Valkeiper
        April 20, 2020, 9:36 am | #

That was actually Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain) on his first visit to Australia.
On the boat, he got sick and a rumor got started that he had died.

So, at his first show, the quote was “rumors of my death had been greatly exaggerated”.
At the same show, he said “When I was 14, my father was an idiot and I couldn’t stand to be around him.
When I was 21, he was a genius. It is astounding how much that learned in seven years.”

A reporter in the audience said all the adults laughed heartily… and all the teenagers were confused.

Gis Lagace of Menage a 3 and Eerie Cuties has a story coming out in April in on of the Archie Comics digest books.

I understand she just barely missed getting hired at Archie a while ago – i can see why; her style is inherently very close to the Archie house style…

      just to fill some in:

      The Adventures of Dr.Mcninja
      Antihero For Hire
      Blip
      Ginger’s Bread
      Grrl Power
      Imy The Comic
      Legend of Bill
      Sandra and Woo
      Sore Thumbs
      The Space Between
      Spinnerette
      Treading Ground
      Wayward Sons
and recently DevilBear: The Grimoires of Bearalzebub

Between the two lists and average comic reading speed, as well as page load times i’d say you have about a week of straight reading material, since i’m a fast reader and I’ve spent literally 12 hours catching up to a few of the bigger ones, Wapsi being one of them. However Wapsi is special, because there is so much you need to keep track of , plus all the little details that turn out to be important down the road.

        March 30, 2011, 1:38 am | #

Also, WELCOME to the Wapsi Community! the best part about catching up to a web-comic, is that you can now join other comment-ers in speculation for future events, talking about the most current comic, or even just argue about physics and how they don’t relate to Wapsi at all. It actually enhances the experience.

PS238 I get in dead tree (issue by issue) as well as the “collected works”). I just wish Mr. Williams would put “ask Dr. Positronic” into the colected works.
        Adding:
Order of the Stick (seriously, nobody mentioned that?)
Nodwick (because aaron williams did that one too)
        Skindeep
        Godseeker
The Desert Peach Comic (another web-in-ization of a paper comic, and the current story is a bit dark, but … worth it)

        Adding:

oglaf (NSFW, most of the time, and not much of a story (but that seems to change) But screaming hilarious most of the time too 😉

DMFA (missmab.com and I’m just getting back into it, missed it)

Chopping Block (really NSFW, though it’s because of the violence, no sex here. Very irregular updates (spurts of blood activity, then nothing for months)

This is an interesting thread, because I see a number of comics I didn’t get into. So: people of pretty varying taste still have things in common. As I said, very interesting.

      Oh, and no-one mentioned…

      Sinfest

Most webcomics I follow have been mentioned already, but here’s some new ones:

I’d recommend checking out sediverse.com for their webcomic, too, but they’ve recently undergone some website renovations, and for some reason, the comics are now only available as free downloadable bundles instead of being hosted on the website archive, but it’s still a fantastic comic, and one I recommend reading.

Also not mentioned by anyone else here was DM of the Rings, http://www.shamusyoung.com/twentysidedtale/?cat=14, and Darths and Droids, http://www.darthsanddroids.net/episodes/0001.html. They’re parodies of the Lord of the Ring movie series, and the Star Wars 6-logies. DM of the Ring has since concluded, but the Star Wars one is only into the second or third movie, so it still updates.

I’m kinda surprised that Nerf-This, ScoutCrossing, and Motokool haven’t been mentioned yet, but they’re all good comics. Nerf-This is the primary one with Scout Crossing and Motokool being two side-stories the artist is doing, but Nerf-This is the only one that updates on any regular schedule.

I’m dating myself when I say this, but Metanoia, if you can find it, is a damn good webcomic. It’s such a pity the artist just dropped off the face of the world, I was so hopeful for a resolution. On that note, Kagerou, another webcomic, is somehow related to Metanoia, but this one still updates. Kagerou is unforgettable, if you give it a read.

There’s also Lesbian Pirates From Outer Space! It’s quite the excellent satire. By that same artist comes YU+ME (read as ‘you me’), a most fantastical love story of a read. This one is quite the emotional roller coaster, so if you do go on an YU+ME archive binge, have some tissues on hand. It’s fully completed (and it’s final update was on my birthday! That was such a beautiful birthday present).

Wonder if M is actually ‘drawn’ to supernatrual critters now. She WAS the one who decided to go to the island and lets face it. Going to the one island in the world which has your friends ex-sea-stinky close by has gotta be high odds.

That or stinky REALLY knows Bud and knew she would be sunbathing somewhere and has been searching for her since they last met 🙂

I was thinking the same thing… though I do believe there is a species of squid or octopus that can use its head as a storage compartment, usually for food…honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if it opened a hatch somewhere on its body, much like Bud can do.

It’s entirely possible that Stinky is a Lanthian construct, or even something that wandered into our world from another; the Library may not have the only portals to Earth.

I think it may just live there. The beach is in the middle of the Bermuda Triangle, which would be a natural place for a sea monster to live, after all.

‘In other news, another of the Spoiled Princess cruise line’s ships had major issues today, but what exactly isn’t easily determined because there are conflicting reports about what happened… First some people are claiming that a gigantic anchor grazed the ship as it fell from the sky. Others report that around the same time, a tentacled monstrosity attacked the ship, apparently searching for something. Some people are even claiming that the tentacle monster was searching for and eventually found the anchor and then happily swam away, leaving the ship and everything else in it’s wake… We’ll have more news on this story as it develops…’

Oh, yes, like that urban legend of a poor doggy retrieving a stick of dynamite belonging to some idiot ice fishers. In this case, oh, an unexploded WWII depth charge. Not that that would bother Bud any.

Mine once escape the yard and brought back the neighbor’s untended ham left to smoke in his grille. Fortunately, they let it go in exchange for some expensive smoked salmon. Ah, well. Sill miss that mongrel thief of a dog after all these years.

That ships anchor: damned heavy. The girls: all really strong to heft that sorta thing ???? It puts Shelleys “strength” to question if she’s really stronger than them physically if one of them can lift that anchor.

Golem–can squish anything organic into diamond–

The question would be: If Bud gets too exited, would the anchor end-up orbiting somewhere around Mars (driving Mars-conspiracy loonies even more over the edge, 😛 )???

Shelly is seriously buff and bloody strong, but no Golem-can-leave-the-structure-of-reality-bleeding kinda’ strong by far.

Oh, now that would have been a funny filler strip! (Incidentally, I’m pretty sure Bud is only about average height. Brandi is the tallest of the Golem Girls.) Stinky could sulk like the cat who brings you some disgusting dead thing and is hurt when you don’t appreciate their gift.
