Besides the obviously double-entendre there, I think what Pickle is missing out on is the fact that if she grows those flowers (even if subconsciously), she should also be able to willfully re-absorb them. Really, experiencing your first puberty-level crush is nothing to be tearing your “hair” out for.

Can we please have these 12-13 year olds calm down on the cussing?? It makes a character who otherwise would be fun and entertaining look shallow and uneducated!

Pickle is an extremely smart young woman, to see her reduced to spouting explicitives for shock factor is really saddening

actually swearing IS a sign of intelligence.

        September 7, 2017, 8:35 pm | #

There’s a difference between wisdom and intelligence though. A person can be smart as a whip, solve problems without issue, but still look a fool by opening their mouth and cussing.

Is there really a NEED, is what I am mainly asking. What good does her swearing do? Does it give her character “depth” beyond other parts of her narrative? Does her constant swearing make her “current” with her time, a rebel?

Other than for shock value, as I said before, what point does this serve?

Swearing doesn’t always have to serve a point or to have a ‘reason’

I still think that’s somewhat debatable. But then I’m the kind of person who thinks that it’s not the fact that people swear, but that so few know how to do it right.

Time to volunteer at a local Middle School. Where they actually do sometimes shout vulgar epithets for shock value alone, and no other reason. Even the very intelligent ones.

At least of Castela it is in-keeping with her character. She is an intelligent, but sometimes very angry, world destroyingly powerful teenager. Her options for venting are 1) yell (with or without swearing, 2) go to a very remote location and do some plasma powered rock carving, 3) cry. Her default is scream and cuss. Has been since she was at the orphanage.

Coming from someone who doesn’t handle frustration well, swearing helps. I find the more languages the better, myself, but still. Also, my first word in German was a swear, and I was 5 (exposure DOES make a difference).

And Katherine adds another entry to her “MIB never said anything about this” notebook.

I suspect she’s filled up several notebooks by now. Her memoirs will be an interesting read, if they’re ever published.

We’ve seen her hit her head on the floor as hard as she can. That didn’t hurt. Here’s a question, though: if she doesn’t have pain receptors, does she have pleasure receptors?

      • Cpt. Obvious
        September 8, 2017, 10:28 am | #

Well… She likes ice cream, and marshmallows, and I doubt it’s for the nutrition…

She haven’t been shown to be a klutz, so she’s probably have no problem feeling touch, or she’d go around dropping or crushing things all the time.

So she’s got taste and touch receptors, which seems quite atypical for a plant so I’m assuming they came from her animal/human/whatever part. The blackthorn might know about taste, but are probably better at appreciating fresh water, sun and rich soil. They probably also understands about touching and the importance of pain as a warning that there might be damage, but all of that is just theoretical to them. To a whatsit like Castela however they are very useful.

With all of that I’d think it would be strange if she were unable to feel pleasure. After all it’s not some separate receptors, but touch, heat and weirdly enough pain receptors that are responsible for the sensations we classify as pleasure. The final pleasure organ is our brain which is where the real magic happens, and I have no idea how her works.

Welcome to our world! or at least welcome to your stamen.
o How does it feel when your body continues to announce your interest, and availability, despite every effort on your part to control it?
o How does it feel when you can, otherwise, control every individual fiber of your being?
o How does it feel to be VULNERABLE?
    Welcome! to the Male World.

Y’know, with all that’s gone on, it’s important to note that Castela got out of her compromising situation without so much as a word from her mother or sister. Unless all that happened off-camera.

It’s noticeable that our little thorn, who normally is as casual as school rules allow, has her hair done up, her uniform at its sharpest and, I suspect, a touch of mascara (her eyelashes aren’t normally as prominent as in panet 2). But of course this is in no way intended to impress some stupid hot boy.

Hmm, did she ever tell her mom about the whole turning-a-butterfly-into-a-fae-boy incident when her mom came back home the next day? You’d think Brandi would have said something to Katherine at least, since Brandi helped return the boy to his mom…
