Monica’s demons. However, Bud once “poited” Monica’s Doubt directly into Jin. For a while it looked like Jin was pregnant with a full adult, but then Doubt stopped trying to escape and absorbed into Jin, and began working as though she were JIN’s personal Doubt-demon. It wasn’t very effective.
Eventually I think Doubt went back to Monica, but there seems to still be a connection left over from that event. Here we Monica’s demons adapting themselves to torment Jin instead, including altering their appearance.
I don’t know how advanced the world was before it was broken, and I don’t know what Lanthians look like ethnically speaking. Maybe they were to the level of “melting pot” many countries are now and had several different ethnic backgrounded peoples as citizens.
BUT each of the golem gals has a different CURRENT ethnic appearance, that we can connect to something we recognize. Jin appears Asian, Brandi appears African American, and Bud appears a rather standard blond Caucasian.
More specific: Bud’s Mediterranean. Her name sugggests it, as well as several characters’ remarks about her accent stating it outright. You ever compare northern and southern European ethnic traits? Put it this way: most Scandinavians have light hair and pale skin. There are some Swedes who have olive skin and darker hair. Why? They’re descended from sailors of the Spanish Armada who got wrecked on the Swedish coast.
