Hey… who has been talking in front of the kids?

They aren’t supposed to learn about that until they become parents themselves. It’s part of the initiation ritual!

That’s one reason why I never became a parent. Once I figured it out, I resolved to never let the secret slip out accidently. The whole secret is similar to that of of parent cajoling their grown-up kids getting married & having kids of their own, so that they learn what horrid stuff they did to their parents when they were young. That’s how I figured out that if that whole “revenge thing” still works from grandparent to parent because of spoiling the grandkids rotten, then the “revenge thing” from parent to kid can work the same way.

Even though I’m old enough that my parents are long gone & I don’t have any kids, I’m still an uncle & I still just might have some leftover “sibling rivalry issues” with my sister that I can work with. So I still like *using* these secrets on other peoples’ kids to drive them crazy, *then* send them home to their own parents while their minds are still befuddled.

Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain) once said “your first childhood ends when your first child is born… your second childhood begins when your first grandchild is born.”

It doesn’t matter how good the advice is if the kid cannot bring themselves to actually do it!

OMG, you mean, like how a true friend would treat you? Although I don’t think Daylla is a bad person per say she just is who she is.

This could be risky for Castela, though. What will happen to her, now that she’s not ingesting a regular daily dose of friendsnark? Her metabolism might rebel… going “cold turkey” isn’t an easy experience.

All friends (or subsets of friends) have different dynamics. Daylla is the friend you are always joking with, and don’t always get when it’s time to be serious.

I am sure a ‘yeah mom, whatever…’ would help??

    “…with wonky tempo and inflexion”.
    Brilliant!
If you ever wondered WHY someone talking slang who usually doesn’t talk that way sounds so cringe-inducing – here is the answer!

Just a heads up, it is spelled “inflection” in the USA. The x version is a british variant.

Considering that Castela and Daylla used to refer to one another as “knight” and “squire”, it’s not entirely implausible that Castela may have adopted a habit of occasionally pronouncing words using an English accent or infle{x|ct}ion.

It is? Since when? Never heard of ‘inflex’, only ‘inflect’

I never heard of “inflex” either, but I have heard of “inflexion”. And by-the-by, I think you meant to say that you “Never heard of ‘inflex’, only ‘inflects’ – not ‘inflect’.
        There, fixed it for you.

Don’t be alarmed, Castela. It’s just Paul trying out a new feature of his draw-by-computer program.

You’ve got a typo there, it’s spelled “inflection”

      December 6, 2018, 10:15 am | # | Reply

Castela used the British spelling rather than the American spelling.

Might be her way of saying “EUuuuu… what Mom is doing makes me want to head for the Brexit!”

Talking to British people, it seems that this is no longer a thing in practice

So if Castella meant to have an x there, she’s faking a British accent through cursory google research

      • Guesticus
        December 7, 2018, 10:04 am | #

Yeah, nah, the fact she started that sentence with the American ‘mom’ kinda rules out her slipping into an English accent for one word
