I thought this was a case of Heterodyne’s First Law: Any sufficiently researched magic is indistinguishable form science. Or given Girl Genius… SCIENCE!
I agree with Cass–Scarlet should realize that moving forward does not discredit those who came before. A good example is Dalton’s atomic model, which is still taught even though it was ultimately an incorrect way to classify the elements.
I think they probably already have the following lines of research:
“How much more advanced do the World Grid nodes need to be to withstand future openings of extradimensional portals?”
“How can we prevent future openings of extradimensional portals?”
“How can we stop the Blackthorn if she ever turns?”
It can be taken a step further. Magic doesn’t exist. The only distinction is perception. Magic isn’t magical to the magician. If one understands how something works, it isn’t magic. It’s science. If I could fling fireballs from my hands, then I would need an understanding of how to do so. If I can understand it, I can explain it. If it can be explained, it isn’t magic. The “magic” is just the perception of the ignorant observer who has never seen a blowtorch before.
So Scarlet *is* going down a path she doesn’t want to go down.
Clarke’s Third Law: any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.

“Sufficiently advanced magic is indistinguishable fgrom technology.” Tannim, in Mercedes Lackey’s SERRAted Edge series.
So right, Castela!
I was right❗
(Scarlet’s) grandmother’s notes are what inspired her to conduct this/these experiment/s❗

I wonder how having access to a sentient outer god like being would affect scientific research in the Wapsiverse?
I mean, if they need to measure the effect of opening portals to other planes of existence, they just need to ask Cass.
