Dustin will have a bigger problem with that, since he has to answer for the custodian’s keys and a busted door to the grid anchor room. But he found his Daylla alive and well.
So our Daylla is now back in her home universe, and trapped Daylla is now back in her home universe. So sad that Dustin’s Daylla died as a Daylla-shaped pile of ash two months ago.
You do realize that “trapped Daylla” and the “pile of ash” are the same entity? Pretty sure it was a Daylla shaped scorch mark that they found, not ash.
RBZ may be correct, if Daylla-1 was correct in something she said. She believed that the Daylla trapped in the grid break was not Dustin’s Daylla (Daylla-2), but had to come from a third universe . Her thinking seems to be that the beam would have had no effect on any matter which was still in its own native universe, hence “trapped Daylla” had to be another “outsider” (Daylla-3). We don’t yet know whether she was correct.
On the one hand, if she was right, then Daylla-2 is either dead (as RBZ says) or still missing somewhere. “Trapped Daylla” is Daylla-3, and is either back in her own universe (in which case she’s just broken the ribs of her boyfriend Dustin-2, who we never saw before yesterday), or is now in Daylla-2’s universe (and is in the arms of Daylla-2’s boyfriend Dustin, who she had never seen before) and still needs to figure out a way home once she realizes that she’s in the wrong universe.
On the other hand, Daylla-1 may have been wrong about the grid anchor… she said herself that she’s bright but not super-smart. Daylla-2 may have have figured a way to get herself into the grid anchor field a couple of months ago, scorching the ceiling and floor of the room in the process. “Trapped Daylla” has confirmed that she was trying to fix the anchor, and implied that she entered it to try to set up a resonance cascade from inside, so this is all plausible. In this case, “Trapped Daylla” is Daylla-2, we haven’t seen a Daylla-3, and everyone is alive and back where they should be.
On the gripping hand, it could be even more complex. “Trapped Daylla” may have been Daylla-3 and is now somewhere unknown, while Daylla-2 might have just returned to her own universe and boyfriend after having been trapped in the beam in a third universe where we didn’t see her until now. Or, Daylla-2 may be in a fourth universe.
We won’t know until Paul reveals the truth or at least narrows down the possibilities, either in strip or via W.o.G. on Facebook.
Don’t you love the convolutions? 😁 This is on a par with the Time Forest paradoxes… quite as twisted as anything Keith Laumer came up with.
Nice Niven reference with the gripping hand! Or was that one a Niven-Pournelle collaboration? I can’t remember and my library is currently packed up in storage…
What profit a girl to gain the world and lose a potential boyfriend?
That may not be a problem, although Scarlet may take exception to her choice of crash barrier.
Potential boyfriend meets kinetic girlfriend? I’m not sure that relationship would have worked out… the energies aren’t balanced.
I think the guy running the Foley for this strip just used up his entire “bowling ball hits a strike” sound effect budget for the month.
Nah, that last one was more like “falling anvil”.
hahahahahahahahaha Love it! Brilliant as always, Paul.
Poor Tim.
At least Daylla got back to her home dimension.
One of them did. Or maybe all of them did. I think this is a different Daylla than the one in yesterday’s page.
Oh boy, now the fun part…. trying to explain what happened and why to people who didn’t actually experience it.
Dustin will have a bigger problem with that, since he has to answer for the custodian’s keys and a busted door to the grid anchor room. But he found his Daylla alive and well.
It seems Daylla landed on the fun parts.
t’s two A.M. (It’s two A.M.)
Fear is gone (fear is gone)
well it isn’t a bullet but something just as hard…. lol
for those stuck with the song in your head your welcome…. lol
What song? o_O
I’m sitting here waitin’…the gun’s still warm. Maybe my connection is tired of taking chances…
Oh yes, and thanks. Care for a bullet to the bone? 😛

At least the time forest had a finite number of iterations—this could exponentially explode quite fast…

“The Mote in God’s Eye” and “The Gripping Hand” are collaborations.
“DAAAAAYYYY -OWWWWW”
Daylight come an me wanna go home.
^^Love it!
how does Daylla compare to a six-foot, seven-foot, eight-foot bunch?
She eats alloys when she has lunch.
Just watch out for the eight-legged stowaway
Day!, is’t Day?, Is it Day-ay-ay-oooohh?
OK, so now we have our answer, the previous two strips were both “other” Daylla, and THIS is “our” Daylla.
“I’m your what?”
This does lend extra fuel to the DayStela ship 😀
