Demons are personal, and only affect their host (obviously) 🙂 And your demons can’t control you unless you let them, but they will always be trying to tempt you
The D&D classification seems somewhat apt; devils are those who run hell, and are organized and autocratic. Demons are chaotic.
In the Wapsi-verse, demons are not evil beings per se, they are the parts of a person’s psyche that can cause him or her to take a self destructive path… but they can also give good advice, sometimes. “Only a danger… in an advisory role.”
I get the feeling that different people’s demons may be better or worse. Monica’s are particularly dangerous to her. Tina’s… well, hard to say for certain, but all evidence point to them being a decent lot.
Jin did say that few people got in touch with their demons the way Tina and Monica did. We also know that Monica put her demons to work. Perhaps Tina found a way to tame hers, rather than enslave them? Like, found a way to housebreak them?
Dave, i Tina’s case, she was gone, so the demons took over, and are collectively running (or being) her. Maybe that’s another way to “tame” them: put them in charge without a host to tempt?
Demons got hierarchy and rules and all that???

Hell IS a bureaucrasy, after all.
C. S. Lewis knew what he was talking about when he wrote “The Screwtape Letters”.
Not the sort of demons we’re talking about here…
