I doubt ;P that this last demon is who you think it is. Look back over the last few pages. Not only does the other one have a different, consistent pattern, but it is in front of Monica, while this one has different eyes & pattern, no facial markings, and is behind both Monica and Shelly.
And so dear friends, we bid farewell to all the troubles of the world as they journey back to the land of their origins, safe in the knowledge that the doorway they once used to enter this world has been locked behind them.
Not precisely topical to this particular comic, but here’s to Mr. Taylor for having the confidence to run the “fix it” storyline well before 2012. There are far to many authors of various sorts who would have milked the story for longer whether it needed to be or not. Although, I do hope it does not get too boring with demons being locked away and the calendar fixed or banished.
At this point, I’m reminded of a Mystery Science Theater 3000 episode where Joel and the Bots were watching a confusing movie, and one of them quipped, “Geeze, Tolkien couldn’t follow this plot!” However, I have faith that once I sit down and re-read everything, things will piece together nicely. On the other hand, I worry that with the hopefully years of Wapsi to come that this doesn’t turn into another Phoenix saga from the X-Men comics. 🙂
I read the comics in the 80s. My brother was a big fan of all the X-Men comics while I tended to favor Spider-Man more. I eventually stopped reading them – or attempting to understand it all – to save my sanity.
Are you telling me that Wapsi Square does not need an evil Monica clone, where upon multiple offspring from alternate time lines all converge at the same place? I beg to differ!
Well, first Monica has to die but not really die but actually, as it turns out, be dead but not (but maybe is), and her clone has to be a queen of hell…
I had thought for a while now that the demon with the ring of dots in her eyes was Jin’s mother, not Doubt. Doubt showed up a few pages ago looking slimy as ever; I was under the impression that this “cleaner” demon who has shown up a few times was Mayahuel….
Oh, i figure you’re likely right – Pablo has to have something to tie future storylines to – and there’s just too much story time invested in Tina (and her choker, which we have only seen her without once) and the portal tattoo to just let them slide.
How dare you call a difficult to follow, no one is who they seemed, made up as you go along, Mayan-centric twisting series of past-present interrelated cataclismic events a mess. The proper term is WTF?
So, that’s Monica’s Doubt talking now? Is she telling Shelly to stay behind Monica? Who’s the ‘queen’ she’s referring to? Jin’s Doubt? Why isn’t there more blood flowing out of the top of Monica’s head? I thought Shelly was supposed to be the doorway here, not Monica. She has the portal tattoo and everything.
First, a shiv is jammed into her brain, and then a hole opens up in her stomach. If she lives through all of this, I hope her HMO will cover all of this.
It went in through the region of her brain, but it didn’t hit “her”… look at Monica’s skin from last week, and just before Shel plunged the shiv into her.
She hit the demon – Jin’s Doubt, who was trying to “possess” her. And yes, that’s Monica’s Doubt behind her (look back at the “Keeping yourself together” storyline from April of 2007 – it’s the same eyes).
That was the whole thing all along – to get the doubt demon to go back into the machine, while the “person” she was assigned to comes back to life…
Oh yeah. very good. That seems right. That would also explain the demon’s comment about not being able to kill Monica even if someone wanted to. Bud’s (I think that’s Bud) response saying that’s just what she wanted to hear meant she just got confirmation that stabbing Monica would not kill her while she is in her present trance-like state of … whatever it is … syncronicity?
I looked at the part you said to, but circle eyes and a circle of pupils are very different, also I’d never seen Doubt’s pattern anything like that. But then I found http://wapsisquare.com/comic/room-full-of-fem/
Better example to show that the demon in today’s comic is Mon’s Doubt. (unless we just assumed that was Doubt, and it was actually somebody else, but I don’t think so.)
Well, Monica’s doing the sucking, therefore she would be the sucker and the demons would be the suckees. Overall I would say it’s better to be the sucker than the suckee. Unless we’re talking about sex. Which we were’nt … were we?
What good is being a demon if you have to follow rules? And who makes the rules? For that matter, who gives other demons the power to enforce those rules? Who’s the head demon anyway? I’m guessing Oprah.
Sometimes, Doubt can be a good thing, causing one to step back a mite and consider approaching a situation from another angle. But if one’s Doubt runs unchecked, unabated, unedited, then one is operating in a personal cloud of chaos, which can affect people and events in the surrounding area. Paisley Doubt has been a busy little manifestation, you think?
“I looked at the trap, Egon!”
I think Paul should do a Demon Swimsuit Calendar. But that might screw the world up worse, forget I said it.
Damn, until Paul said something, I was still thinking that was Tina and that Doubt was shared by Jin and Monica, not that there were two of them (shared since Bud ‘misplaced’ Monicas doubt into Jin).
Whatwhatwhat? More questions wrapped in riddles packaged inside enigmas…
But now “Doubt” is playing the Good Cop?
Oh, my aching head!
She was never really the bad guy, just a huge pain in the ass.
WayBackWhen, Doubt told Monica that she was a necessary (albeit externally-manifesting) component of her personality.
I doubt ;P that this last demon is who you think it is. Look back over the last few pages. Not only does the other one have a different, consistent pattern, but it is in front of Monica, while this one has different eyes & pattern, no facial markings, and is behind both Monica and Shelly.
No – this is Monica’s Doubt – that other one is Jin’s Doubt.
The sequence that begins here and runs through here shows both Doubts as spectators to Jin and Monica squaring off at the Cerberus Club.
And a little demon vigilante action…
Nothing says the demons could not move, if I remember correctly? Even if it had been the same, I take that into account.
And so dear friends, we bid farewell to all the troubles of the world as they journey back to the land of their origins, safe in the knowledge that the doorway they once used to enter this world has been locked behind them.
Or…. has it?
What are those rules again?
Here’s one that was broken on a global scale
http://wapsisquare.com/comic/demonlaw/
Thank you for pointing that out! I’d completely forgotten that Jin’s and Monica’s demons had been interacting!
Boy, that’s about the spookiest Tina has ever looked without also appearing deformed…
By “Deformed” you must mean “As sexy as a cartoon can be.”

I just referenced MST3K, Tolkien, and X-Men. Bow before the Uber-Nerd!
Ummm.. before or after the Marvel retcon?
I read the comics in the 80s. My brother was a big fan of all the X-Men comics while I tended to favor Spider-Man more. I eventually stopped reading them – or attempting to understand it all – to save my sanity.
Which one? They’ve had so many…
I think you missed Captain Jack Sparrow…
Are you telling me that Wapsi Square does not need an evil Monica clone, where upon multiple offspring from alternate time lines all converge at the same place? I beg to differ!

Okay. So we know what Brandi’s plan was.
It’s Wednesday.
What Great Evullness is brewing in Pablo’s tricksy mind for Friday?
For instance, we still have no revelations as to the Final Purpose of Shelly’s portal tattoo.
And i still suspect that Tina’s choker has some Deeper Significance.
Agreed, but perhaps they’re not directly related to the calendar machine..?
Oh, i figure you’re likely right – Pablo has to have something to tie future storylines to – and there’s just too much story time invested in Tina (and her choker, which we have only seen her without once) and the portal tattoo to just let them slide.
Probably holds her head on .
Just had to write my thoughts after seeing the page: Awesome. As in awe inspiring.
So Jin’s demon is the Queen of sorts who was to be broken? Didn’t see that coming.
Can we have one comic that recaps this mess.
How dare you call a difficult to follow, no one is who they seemed, made up as you go along, Mayan-centric twisting series of past-present interrelated cataclismic events a mess. The proper term is WTF?

What about Tina? hummm will there be a demonic barista anymore?
Ok, M was stabbed in the head, but now seems to be bleeding from the gut – and no sign of head injury.
I think she’s talking to Monica’s other demons – glad they’ll be sticking around, esp. Doubt. The strip wouldn’t be the same without them.

Boy, those demons really suck.
There, I said it. 😉

Well that will show them!
Oprah- SNORT

The last picture, that’s Shelly’s conscience isn’t it?
That’s Monica’s doubt. =)
Wait … consciences are demons? That would explain a lot.
Nope, Shelly’s demons became something more like a conscience after her vision quest.
I so hope tomorrows has Jin’s Deamon shrieking as she’s sucked back to where she belongs. ^_^
…and for Friday?
Drinks at the Cerberus Club on Bud!
…and what about Marcia?
(Cue cheezy organ music.)
A thought: wouldn’t it have just been easier to coax the demon into the machine by using… pizza?
LOL, Dietzel’s pizza girl shows up to save the day! That would have been a twist!
But pizza clearly only works on Monica’s Doubt. Jin’s Doubt would require something else to lure it. Say, a Bo Peep outfit?
Wooooo!!! Loving it!
Damn, until Paul said something, I was still thinking that was Tina and that Doubt was shared by Jin and Monica, not that there were two of them (shared since Bud ‘misplaced’ Monicas doubt into Jin).
a year later and i actually get what was going on in this comic 🙂
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Hooooooooooooooooooooo!!!
They do indeed have rules; break those rules, and you will be broken in their stead…
