    Phix, FTW! (Love the expressions.)

Yeah, expressions are where Paul really shines. I can totally hear Phix in the last panel because of that expression.

Both expressions in the last panel blew me away 😉 I’m quite sure I would have the gravel to get in Phix’ face like that (I’d be huddling in a far corner by now), but Nudge does it so cheerily I have to hope she doesn’t blow it and get on Phix’ bad side again 😉

        January 19, 2011, 7:51 pm | #

(*&^^ forgot to proofread – I would *not* have the gravel (nerve) to face Phixlike Nudge does

Nudge grown on you–as Phix finally is admitting. Win-win!

But I think Phix got a technical win on points…

Upon second look, I like style of Phix’s feathers.

I agree, great wings in today’s strip. I love the first panel where Phix’s wing is the mid-background.

why is everything a competition for women?

      “For women”?

Geeze – how many men do you know?

      • TlalocW
        January 19, 2011, 12:16 am | #

Why are you asking? So you can show you know more men than whoever answers? Not everything is a competition! C’mon! 🙂

Ha! i know more men than any of you! Who wants some??

      • kramegame
        January 19, 2011, 1:08 pm | #

I know men can be competitive, but at least we know when enough is enough, plus our competitions don’t usually result in tearing down friendships but building new ones. so yes everyone is competitive, listening to that basic instinct, but i just feel that women don’t know when to stop.

      • Ratcatcher
        January 20, 2011, 6:37 am | #

In my experience women judge best when to back down/quit pushing better with other women, and men mostly with other men. That may be cultural tho.
With these two (looks up and sighs) only Paul knows.

      January 19, 2011, 2:00 am | # | Reply

same way its a competition between men also.
pack dominance thing i think or territorial? who knows. But both genders do it 🙂

      • jamesskaar
        January 19, 2011, 2:45 am | #

if for men it’s a pack dominance thing, then for women it’d be to show the strongest male who the strongest female in the group is, for those that don’t want to share. honestly ladies, most men have moments when being shared is the coolest concept in existence, but we want to be shared by the worthy.

      • SoWhyMe
        January 19, 2011, 8:15 am | #

Being shared is highly overrated. It’s messy, smelly, awkward, and too demanding.

If you’re talking about raw, unbridled animal interactions, then yes. Thing is, humans have evolved a society in which unnatural selection takes over. It’s all about mutual attraction or expediency. For the population at large it’s rarely about power or dominance. We tend to protect the weak/infirmed and even let them breed. That’s why we have so many illnesses and genetic defects in humans. For the most part anyone can breed with anyone and there is no accounting for attraction. Lyle Lovett & Julia Roberts proved that.

        January 19, 2011, 8:55 am | #

True that…what did L.L. ever see in her?

      • Fairportfan
        January 19, 2011, 2:58 pm | #

Ah, yes – as Kate said – the woman has to be careful to not smile too widely because she’d get lipstick on her ears.

If they ever decide to have a Batman film with a female Joker…

      • Fatuncle
        January 19, 2011, 6:00 pm | #

Oh, that was just evil. And as soon as I stop strangling on my giggles, I will tell Kate so, very repressively.

But where are we going to find a leather cat suit big enough to fit Phix?

    • Jabberwonky
      January 19, 2011, 12:46 am | # | Reply

Actually, she’d only need half of the cat suit…

      • Fairportfan
        January 19, 2011, 1:34 am | #

She’s already wearing the bottom half of a cat suit.

But, actually, after i typed thatr, i thpought od Dame Diana and Dame Maggie Smith in Evil Under thge Sun… The only possible way that their first confrontation could have been have been enhanced would have been by adding cat sounds in the background.

Push, push, push. You’re asking for another ba-donk-a-bonk to the head, Nudge. She’s one of those irritating people who simply must have their acomplishments acknowledged. Phix’s expression says “I’m trying to be civil to you, so shutup you annoying little snot before I brain you again.” And she means it in the nicest possible way.

I love how Nudge’s horns grow and curl in the different panels. I’m convinced that is on purpose.

I’m also convinced that SOMEBODY was inspired by SOMEBODY’s post about facial expressions, so had to try out a whole bunch of them…

Maybe a petite redhead with an attitude.

      • Fairportfan
        January 19, 2011, 3:11 pm | #

Well, there are a lot of red-headed Greeks. (Nudge’s profile and hair look Greek to me.) The Ptolemys were Greek, from that part of Greece – so it’s a good bet that Cleopatra was a redhead, not the “black” woman she’s often portrayed as.

Which makes me wonder what the bathroom is like? Does Phix have a giant litter box? A bed of hay for Nudge? Or do they just use appro. sized toilets? Perhaps poit their waste to somewhere? No muss no fuss and no TP needed. May still have a bidet, however.

Yes, I know, I have too much time on my hands.
