    Don’t go into the woods!

If you go out in the woods today
You’re sure of a big surprise.
If you go out in the woods today
      You’d better go in disguise.

For every bear that ever there was
Will gather there for certain, because
Today’s the day the teddy bears have their picnic!

( sorry… just had to do that! )

If you go down in the woods today,
        You’d better not go alone.
It’s lovely down in the woods today,
But it’s safer to stay at home!

        Picnic time for teddy bears!
The little teddy bears are having a wonderful time today.
        Watch them, catch them unawares
And see them picnic on their holiday!
        Watch them gayly get about!
They love to play and shout; they never have any cares…
But at six o’clock their mommies and daddies
Will take them home to bed
Because they’re tired little teddy bears.

Really, I’m surprised anyone else knows that song. 😀
        Ok I’ll stop now.

As well you should. This is why the demons should never be allowed to take over a human completely. Also why Tina’s demons are on probation to see how things go. Nudge not being human is a loophole, but the fact Tina cut loose on her does not bode well for Tina.

Tina is showing REAL full blown Emotions …

She has many times shown facial expressions …
a big smile when she states something one of the charaters react to,
a frown when what she said was not believed,

Then there was no tears (or as many as now) when she broke her arm

What she is showing here is raw Emotion. A real, feelable, pain on the inside.

“Little Comanche. I was told to.” Nudge “knows” Shelly? Curiouser and curiouser. I wonder who told Nudge to do that? Jin? One of the Immortal Politicians? The Library?

    • nerf-dweller
      February 2, 2011, 12:26 am | # | Reply

And that brings up some other thoughts. Nudge led Shelly into the woods. That means Nudge wasn’t inside of Tina until after Tina 1.0 left for the Great Beyond. Where was Nudge hiding all those thousand of years after she escaped from the Library before winding up with Tina’s demon collective? Was Nudge told to go into the collective and gi’ve ’em the nudge to take over? If so told Nudge to do that? Is there another mastermind around other then Jin?

      • Atomic
        February 2, 2011, 12:46 am | #

As I recall, the order of events was Shelly having rabbit dreams leading to her quest — going on the quest and chasing a rabbit (now known to be Nudge) — Monica running in front of the bus (near death experience and Jin rescue) — Tina 1.0 Collision at same time with bus — Jin meets Shelly in woods (Shelly near death from exposure and Jin rescue #2).

Allowing that Tina 1.0 did not “die” immediately from the accident, Nudge would have had time (if that’s the word) to catch up with Tina in the morgue and take charge of the ship, so awakening as part of Tina 2.0.

        Something like that anyway.

      • Vorlonagent
        February 2, 2011, 11:12 am | #

Further, nobody says Nudge can’t Poit.

Her lack of facility with human form says Nudge spent most of her time either in someone, in the shadows or shapeshifted.

      • SoWhyMe
        February 2, 2011, 12:48 am | #

I suppose Jin needed Tina ambulatory in some form, dead or not, for the plan to work getting Nudge to do her thing and have her way with the body?

Perhaps Jin hid Nudge in one way or another al those years. But that would bring up the question, how did Jin meet her in the first place?

      • jwhouk
        February 2, 2011, 2:09 am | #

…Perhaps it wasn’t Jin who “met up” with her.

Someone asked, “I wonder where Mayahuel is now?” Well…

      • Stjason
        February 2, 2011, 2:48 am | #

Who says Jin needed/wanted/had anything to do with Tina? Tina self-arguement has revealed that she didn’t know precisely when Nudge joined them, only that she was there when Tina was in the morgue. Who is to say that Nudge didn’t need someplace to hide (Sphinx?) and found Tina dead/dying and thought it good enough?

That said, I thought Shelly followed the Rabbit Goddess (can’t recall her name right now, but it was later revealed to be Jin)
…Unless she was there and Jin later took advantage of the situation so as to not let her ‘other prospect’ die…

In which case, we end up where we are now. Who was Nudge taking orders from?

Maybe, but maybe not. Shelly is well aware that Jin was manipulating her as part of the calendar machine quest, and that she met her as Tochtli on the vision quest. Jin tells Nudge to lead Shelly on the quest, and the rest falls into place. Shelly would be mad at Jin — still — but, also might take some of it out on Nudge.

I vote no on this one. Shelly has been thick, but emphasis on the past tense there. She’s more aware now, but I doubt she’ll have much empathy for Nudge either.

      We’ll see tomorrow!

      • Tessa
        February 2, 2011, 4:06 am | #

Are you sure that’s the case? Shelly went on her vision quest on her own and went farther than Jin expected (http://wapsisquare.com/comic/didntlikewhatshefound/) She was distracted by helping Monica at the same time. I think it was Brandi who told Nudge to do it. She had made the deal with Tina’s demons to put monica in front of the bus (and Tina) at the same time Shelly was being led away by Nudge. And Jin was caught in the middle. This definitely has Brandi written all over it.

    • Jay-Em
      February 2, 2011, 6:17 am | # | Reply

I guess Tina is especially upset because Phix put the kebosh on the rats, for-involuntarily- harbouring Nudge. It is apparent that Sphinxes are the demon’s worse fear.

Extreme fear and sense of helplessness, will often out itself in anger and violent behaviour.(Brother of a therapist in a youth-prison speaking here)

Shelly being a prime example of that.

Yeah. Given Tina’s expression in the drawing, her words don’t seem to match. She should be shouting all sorts of obcenities and slured speech. Instead she is delivering a discourse on who and what Nudge is. Her speech is much too contained for that maniacal a look.

This is hard! I actually feel sorry for both of them. Tina really tugs at my heart-strings here, though.

Great to see that Shelly has suddenly matured to a rather wise person. I guess her accepting of creepy-girl had quite the impact.

On a side-note; Jeebus! All these connections start to look like the flow-chart made for the new remote-working security-system we recently implemented at work….

We called the resulting cable-jungle :punniken (Dutch for “French knitting”) 😆

I was trying to explain why I blurted “Oh my God!” out loud at reading this. After about 20 min. of it I concluded with “Dear God, you’ll just have to read it to get all the nuances…”

“Oh my God”(and some extra “colourful expletives”) was also what I said, when I got the unsavoury task of de-tangling and velcro-ing all cables from the different switches, routers and other perefenalia..

The only advise I have: buy the hard-copies of Wapsi-Square. rather expensive with postage to Europe, but absolutely worth it.

Wapsi is one of the few WebComs that can compete with the French/European Graphic novels we are used to here imho.(Like Corto maltese: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/CortoMaltese )

My first read through, I ordered all 4, and the sketch book. I keep meaning to go through and put dates to the strips in the books to help with looking them up.
And, I’m waiting for a book of Pablo’s backgrounds.
        (hint, hint)

Interestingly, Nudge is the only female character here that i don’t (personally) find attractive in her human mode.

Of all the cast, Bud would come closest, i think, to being the kind of girl/woman i find physically attractive – tall, slender, long legs, not too top-heavy…

Having had a long-time friendship with a woman with an eating disorder, Georgette would creep me out – if Paul hadn’t established she’s not an eating-disorder case.

I actually fell in love with Shelly because of her personality, early on in the series. This, and the one following it, were the strips that cinched it.

But Bud is closing in on her fast with her developing ‘humanity’.

Someone needs to tell Nudge, hydrogen peroxide and cold water will get those bloodstains out of her blouse.

And a cold compress will help the eye.

Well, if Nudge could transform herself from a 9 ft. creature to a normal size human female, I would imagine she could *Thip* away all those bruises and cuts as well. Not unlike a cartoon character who is battered and bruised, in one scene and whole again in the next.

That means Nudge was working with Jin!

At this point, if I were Shelly (or Monica), I would get the Golem Girls, Mayahuel, Tepoz, Phix, Nudge, and Tina, go to the library (which talks now and maybe could fill in any missing details), order a bunch of pizzas and booze, and have them start talking so as to make a big flow-chart of everyone’s involvement in the humans’ lives.

Hmm..that would be exeedingly helpful. However, do not let them use SmartDraw..it makes flowcharts more complicated than useful

Let them, indeed, POIT the whole shebash to the library. I have the vague inkling Phix will be able to clear some stuff up too….

I love how vicious, enraged and beautiful Tina is looking in panel 2. Teary, wild-eyed, and with those crazy teeth, it also looks like some of Nudge’s blood got on her face as well. Very becoming.
    I like ’em crazy!

She put Tina mobile again… she led Shelly to her death…. I’d be willing to bet she gave Jin and Doubt the idea to chase Monica to HER death… Maybe even that she had that machine built to begin with.

Okay… if this WHOLE thing was Nudge’s doing… that would be seriously deep.. and she’s gonna have a HUGE line of people waiting to get their licks in.

Also: WHERE THE HELL IS LITTLE DRUNKEN GOD MAN TEPOZ!?! I miss the pint size wiseass. T_T
