Oh, I don’t know. There is her makeup, small waist with large hips, tight pants with no “package” buldge, no facial shadow, no Adam’s apple.

Come to think of it I don’t have a visible Adam’s apple either, though, so that may not mean much.

That’s it? That’s what they took from the encounter?

One thing I’ve never seen portrayed in this series is one of those all night talk sessions I’ve heard people have to really get to know each other. All they ever seem to do when they get together is get drunk and dance. Well, that and save the world, but still. Otherwise they’re all off doing their own things. They all seem to have only a very superficial relationship with each other.

I’m not saying we need to see the conversations and read some great amount of dialog, just get the gist of the fact they have gab fests from time to time. Something to show they interact on closer terms than just the bar scene.

You do kind of have a point. I think that when the GGs lived with Monica there were lots of “girly nights” that could have involved interesting conversations, but they were still a little flighty and unaware at the time so it hardly counts.

That said, Tina has some pretty in depth conversations with Monica and the gang over her coffee making. At this stage, perhaps she recognizes that there’s more than mere acquantance-ship going on, but they haven’t necessarily moved to “close friends” which would involve much more in depth conversation outside the coffee shop.

Well, Shelly and Monica had a pretty long conversation after they met Nudge and Amanda spent a whole day with Monica at work after visiting her the evening before. Up to now, Tina said that she didn’t have any friends. We’ll have to see if Monica and Shelly reciprocate and behave differently with Tina than they have in the past.

I also think that Tina said “friends” because it’s her job to be their friend. In other words, she’s going to be loyal and helpful, but not necessarily so close.

Well, the word “friend” got very much devalued in our society – see facebook “friends”.

But I agree – they might be close, but the comic rarely shows it.

And the GGs were shown having movie nights in the past, too.

Though they mostly seemed to watch “Pretty in Pink” in hopes it would come out “right” this time.

(Ironically, from what i’ve read, the GGs’ preferred end was, in fact, what was originally planned…)

Remember near the end Molly Ringwald takes Ally Sheedy away for a makeover? It’s a nice feminine bonding scene – but only then does Anthony Michael Hall actually notice Ally is a cute girl. Frankly, it drew a smart character as shallow; I wish he’d appreciated her for how she was. It’s a dissatisfying moment in an otherwise excellent movie.

            September 11, 2010 at 8:40 pm | #

I haven’t seen it, but, apparently, the originally-planned ending was to have the girl wind up with the other guy than she did.

In Hughes’ original script, Andie and Duckie end up together, but due to pressure, Hughes had to change the ending so that Andie and Blane ended up together. – Pretty in Pink: Encyclopedia

(I’m sure someone can find the strip with the GGs watching and informing Monica that this time they hope Andie and Ducky wind up together…)

I was a little worried that we would discover that Tina had read what Shelly and Monica were thinking about each other from their auras. In other words, Shelly hated Monica’s haircut and Monica was worried about Shelly’s relationship, but both had hidden it so as to not hurt the other’s feelings. I’m not seeing anything to support that, though. I still think Tina was reading what they pushed out of their own minds.

Seems like it, but what there is must be really small. Especially the lower intestines. The food must go practically straight through, again explaining why she doesn’t gain weight. She must take frequent bathroom breaks, however. Though we have recently seen that her stomach can expand quite a bit to hold it for a while at least.

Yes, yes, I know, it’s a cartoon and her form, as drawn, is a charicature. Just having a bit of fun with the body as shown.

It’s probably a good thing that Tina sells coffee and not used cars. Can you imagine?

“Hello. My name is Tina. You look like you might be interested in this car. YOU WOULD BE A FOOL TO MISS OUT ON SUCH A GREAT DEAL! … Oh, excuse me! The thing is, I feel obligated to be honest to my customers and that wasn’t really me talking, anyway. You see, I can read auras. That was really your aura talking, not me. Hmm. It seems to me that you are looking for a car and are subconsciously worried about missing out on a good deal. Well, that’s certainly understandable. Fortunately, I have something you might like even better over here…”

Oh yeah, she’d make a mint in sales, no matter the product. That is, if she didn’t disclose the aura ability and could control her initial reaction better..

If two really good aura readers met, I think there would be one of three outcomes:

      1) they look at one another for a few moments, then simply turn and go their separate ways, finding conversation useless since they already know everything about each other.

      2) They look at one another a few moments, then both become wide-eyed and launch into each other, fists and feet, tooth and claw.

      3) They look at one another a few moments and their heads explode.

Your #1 reminds me of the story (i’ve heard it told of Miyamoto Musashi) of two great swordsmen who met for the first time, face to face, in the middle of a narrow footbridge over a wide and deep stream.

They stood there without moving perceptibly for over an hour, then silently turned, went back to shore, and each sought out other bridges in opposite directions.

A girl who is shunned as a model for being too tall and skinny which she doesn’t work at (high metabolism: Georgette look) and one had a weird reaction from the judges because she has large breasts and a skinny waist… interesting but not necessarily relevant to this page… but interesting

My friend Joia and I used to hold hands all the time when we were walking together; didn’t mean anything but that we were friends. When you’re a taller gal like me walking with a shorter gal, it also keeps you in pace with each other. It also comes in handy during icy winters when your friend’s grip on your hand may be the only thing keeping you standing! …or you might both end up on your assets on the ice laughing yourselves silly. :)

I love the fact that after the previous moments, the part they come away with is that Tina says they are friends. :) That positive energy is the thing to hang on to!

i loooove the way monica looks here. shelley’s arms always bug me a bit but overall i love the style, especially their legs.

also – i definitely hold hands with female friends sometimes. it’s fun. and much safer on ice, i agree!
