Where can I get some of that eggnog flavored bourbon or is it bourbon flavored eggnog? Anyway, I want some. When I was a kid my grandfather used to put rum in his eggnog and let me drink some from his glass. Grandma would get pissed and I always fell asleep after 1/2 a glass or so. I never had a hangover though. Those came along a few years later.
Depends on the person. Some experts define a hangover as “withdrawal symptoms”. And I get a hangover about five minutes after drinking anything more than a sip, so *that* is clearly not dehydration…
Huh… I know traditional eggnog is alcoholic, but I’ve honestly never seen any. Only the non-alcoholic versions are sold in our local grocery stores. My understanding was if you wanted boozy eggnog, you had to make it yourself. Then again, I’m in Canada, and our grocery stores generally aren’t allowed to sell booze.
I’m 35, but if I were in the States for Christmas, I might have made this exact same mistake (well, other than I know what bourbon is, of course).
In germany you can buy it in a grocery. The most famous brand for eggnogg is Verpoorten(tm) with 20% alcohol. There are recipes to make it yourself, with different flavours, coffee for example with mixed in instant coffee. But the hygiene with eggnogg is difficult and you need to finish ist fast.
I was going to say something about a 16 year old not knowing what bourbon is (as opposed to not knowing good bourbon), but then I remembered this is fiction. ^_^
Not all teens feel the need to prove they are “adults” or whatever by drinking, smoking, doing drugs and sleeping around… Maybe you do, so that colors your vision of what being a teen is like. Personally, no one I know does those things. And yeah, I googled bourbon to find out what it is.
Um, there’s proving that they’re “adults” by doing it, and then there’s remaining ignorant of what burbon is at all at that age. Do they not watch TV, read books, or talk to their peers? Have they never heard of New Orleans or Mardi Gras? The word comes up a lot. The concept of a hangover gets mentioned in all sorts of media. These are supposed to be intelligent, inquisitive kids, I’d expect them to have heard about stuff I knew about as an isolated 10 year old living in a rural area (and didn’t drink at all until I was 18 or so).
@Kels, I’m actually trying to remember where I first head of bourbon as a youth, and one spent with various fantasy roleplaying games. It may have been in passing with some random sci-fi book or another. I don’t recall its mention in any television I watched growing up, even with connection to Mardi Gras. What would be more interesting is people’s geographical proximity Kentucky and other more southernly states. Growing up in the southwest, tequila was the thing, along with just general whisky (sometimes malt).
In my experience bourbon tends to be a very Southern thing, geographically speaking, and gets less mention the further away from that region you get.
@Dorje @Kels, I’m in my 30’s and only vaguely aware of bourbon. It’s definitely a regional thing. I’ve never seen it referenced in books or shows, it’s always scotch that people drink. As for Mardi Gras, I know it’s some kind of party in New Orleans, but I’ve no idea when it is or why it happens. Kels’ comment is the first I’ve ever heard bourbon associated with it. MG matters to southerners, but where I’m from it doesn’t even make the news.
We have TV advertisements with KEntucky bourbon. I also remember i had Whisky-Cola with about 16. The pure stuff was not tasty, too strong. About normal here.
In the twenties I remember a party where i had half liter of a beer with 5% then i had a bottle of Vodka diluted with O juice over the evening, another half liter of beer on top and then went home by bicycle.
Nowadays I dont get drunk. Just a glass of beer or wine now and then.
Actually it is legal to drink alcohol with 18 in my place. With adults around it is ok with 16. A beer with dinner is food. In France a wine with food is OK with younger children.
Message from an European from the future … I’m now quite old, but when I was 16, I learned the word “Bourbon” … in my French History class, it was the name of the French Royal family branch that sold their Lousiana colony to the not-yet revolted upstart colonials of what would later become the USA.
Not a single relation made to alcohol, thoigh.
It was when I was 20 that I discovered Bourbon&Coke during the drinking binges at University.
One thing some people maybe missing is that these girls are paras, and while part of their school curriculum is how to fit in as humans, the classes probably don’t go over certain topics like booze. It’s kind of like how when you take Spanish (even advanced classes), you don’t learn how to curse people out. It’s a cultural blind spot.
Atsali turning fishbelly-white when she figured out what Bourbon was? Best non-verbal “oh shit” I’ve seen all year. It even made her spots vanish for a minute…
No envy necessary. I didn’t have a hangover until I’d turned 27 or something like that. Used to go out an party like there were no tomorrow, crawling back home barely able to stand, and wake fresh as a rose the morning after. I soon learned that most of my friends didn’t appreciate being woken early at Saturdays claiming they had a hangover and cursing at me for being loud.
But eventually my luck ran out and now I’m very much aware of just how awful a hangover can be. It was like flipping a switch. One weekend I’m seemingly immune and the next I just wanted to crawl off and find some quiet place where I could die in piece.
So there’s absolutely no need to feel envy over a hangover. A hangover is just pain and misery and not the least bit sexy.
Heh heh….. congratulations on your first hangover….. at least it wasn’t tequila…..
No, it’s more like mol-boobies.

Go search on the net for “Alton Brown’s Aged Eggnog.” No tasting until you let it age, though.
The hangover is a result from dehydration, not a direct result of the alcohol

From someone who is even more Southern than Dorje is talking about, it was television advertising.
Picture a pre-hercules Kevin Sorbo walking into a bar. “This ain’t Jim Beam”.

I agree that bourbon in your nog is way better than rum.
*singing Judas Priest* “Breaking the law, breaking the law…”
Hate to be ‘that’ guy, but both the girls are at least 16. Or at least Atsali is…P=

Paul mentioned that they are 16 going on 17, so maybe they can just cue the music and call it a day…
16 going on groundedforlife!!!

Uh-oh; Atsali, don’t let the head of MIB ,or your Aunt (same thing) find out about this little ‘incident’
I don’t think there’s much chance Lily won’t find out . . . What Lily will do is another question.
Why doesn’t she had freckles in the second panel? :head tilt:
I think that was the artist’s attempt at having her go so pale it made even her freckles disappear.
i never had a hangover, so i kinda pity and envy Atsali and Nadette for getting oneXD

Finest Iowa bourbon? I hope they removed the coolant from the radiator before they ran the bourbon through it…. XD
