No, the US doesn’t have any DOC protections. The Kentucky Bourbon Association has a trademark on “Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey” that serves the same function though.
Iowa whiskey is usually rye though. Templeton is supposed to be some of the best rye out there.
That’s… not actually true. To legally be called bourbon it just has to be 51% corn. To legally be called KENTUCKY Bourbon, then yes, it has to be produced in Kentucky.
You don’t have to be related to an alcoholic to know about alcohol. The only alcoholics in my family are the ones that don’t come around, and I knew about every different variety of alcohol available then. Clearly their interests are different then mine at that age.
I never drank eggnog with alcohol in it, when I was younger I didn’t even realize eggnog COULD have alcohol in it…..(that would explain the scenes in the second season of digimon though)
Mmmm, the fine bourbons of Iowa… Cletus’ Best is my favorite.
Doesn’t bourbon have to be made in Kentucky to be called bourbon?
Not anymore, just has to be at least 51% corn.
Bourbon flavored malt beverage?

Hey girls, welcome to hangover town. population: You.
Is that like “The finest wine of Idaho?”
Yep! That’s what ran through my mind!
…..Oops.
Iowa bourbon is a thing?
Very much a thing, http://www.crwine.com/iowa-bourbon-whiskey/
Andy,
We have Oregon and Washington Bourbons. In fact the Burnside Bourbon is aged in Oregon oak and quite nice…
There’s a cure for that. Have a little more nog.
Whoa! http://www.crwine.com/iowa-bourbon-whiskey/ — exists, seems like only available in Iowa.
Iowa bourbon is certainly not a “legal” thing. Only the distilleries and limestone aquifers of Kentucky produce the real product.

I’ll have some of that Bourbon and a little Coke. You may be gone, Lemmy, but your music rocks on.
Hair o’ the dog, I always say.
I’m curious about Iowa bourbon, now.
Hair o’ the Nog that bit ya is more like it…
Or ‘Hair of the Bear’ in this case 😉
When you say Iowa Bourbon, I think Monty Python’s, “Australian Table Wines,” sketch.
WHAT duh…
How… »bleep«ing sheltered(?) do you have to be to have no clue about bourbon being an alcohol beverage?!

Not everyone grew up with alcoholic relatives: remember, they are still both young and Sali was an orphan until maybe less than a year ago

Haven’t you heard of bouronado sugar? 🙂
“Something you’re not supposed to mess with yet, sweetie.”
What’s bourbon? Bourbon in an adjective; ‘Oh, that BOURBON hot feeling in my head…’ *rimshot*
That makes you get some more hair on the chest. Actually I prefer Baileys ™.
