Those who were privy to the Eleusinian mysteries were said not to fear death. I suspect someone discovered something resembling CPR, most likely when a friend accidentally drowned. The initiation would then have been what we now call a near-death experience.
I should clarify that this is sheer speculation on my part.
After all the advice he’s given without knowing what’s really going on, Darren deserves to be let in on the side of the world he’s helped :). I’d love to see more of him
