Nadette will have a full time job assisting Atsali in various lunatic endeavors. Probably wind up with a high rank in the MIB. And of course hanging with Atsali means also getting involved with little sister, the walking infernal machine.
Well we know from the voice up high that Atsali will be a famous author when she is in her twenties so Nadette can have quite a bit to do keeping her safe and grounded.
Well, if that’s the case, and if Nadette has any head for business, she could work for Atsali as her business agent/advisor, and handle all her Atsali’s business affairs. Especially since Atsali can be dense when it comes to “reading” people, an important business skill to have.
heh, that ain’t nothing. back when i was in boot camp, there was this guy that was in our company that got caught THROWING AWAY his UNSIGNED pay-checks in the trash, he explained that he’s already a Millionaire and that those paychecks were LESS than chump change to him, and it wasn’t worth his time and effort to bother cashing them out., but… to get any further with his dad’s will and testament, he had to join the military and serve at least 8 years in whatever service he felt like joining, before he got to change it to him being a “multi-Billionaire” (note the B in that last term)…
I’m a little concerned that maybe her parents might *want* her to do something other than sponge off of them. Has she even talked to them about her future?
I remember a comedian, apostrophising children: “Do you know why adults keep asking you what you want to be when you grow up? They’re looking for ideas.”
In Empowered #9, a supervillainess is gloating (prematurely):
‘Gonna be rich!’
‘Filthy rich!’
‘Like way unhygienically rich, even!’
‘Wallowing in a damn cesspool rich!’
I might have missed it, but exactly how did Nadette’s family become wealthy? Old Money? Hugely successful business? One of her relatives invented some device and the patents made them rich?
If Dette comes from old money, she may not actually have to do anything, just stick a massive chunk of it in an interest bearing account and live off the interest.
If her family has a hugely successful business, one assumes she’ll work in the family business.
Of course, there’s also the old “set up atrust fund and become an artist/photographer/world traveler” route.
Ha!
“Okay Nadette, here’s how to make money when you’re wealthy: we call this phone number and ask our licensed Financial Advisor who manages our investments if we’re still stinking rich. If he says ‘yes’ we thank him for doing a great job and hang up. If he says ‘no’, we shit our pants and hide under our beds hoping the problem goes away. Repeat annually.”
In all seriousness now…
if the bear family is wealthy, then they’re almost certainly the owners of some large and successful business of some type, most likely one that runs itself without their needing to take a daily hand in micromanaging it, by this point. They should certainly be able to teach her what she needs to know to run the business and take it over from them.
They might also do what a lot of wealthy parents do with their kids (particularly if the business empire runs entirely without them, or they have no interest in taking it over) and set her (and her sister, certainly) up with a trust fund that regularly deposits a comfortable income into her bank account. This usually comes with conditions, like “find something you’re passionate about” or “start your OWN business”. In other words, they won’t pay her to sit on her ass 24-7 playing video games and smoking weed, but if she wants to dedicate her life to becoming an artist, a musician, or doing unpaid volunteer work, that fund will keep her fed and living in a safe neighborhood. She’d never need to eek out a desperate existence trying to avoid from starving on a minimum wage job. Never become homeless, never desperate. Every parent wants these things for their children, but not many can afford to give them a guaranteed safety net like that.
What’s up with Mallory? Parents loaded? Or not loaded? Is she from the poor side of town?
Her parents may be wealthy but in comparison to Nadette’s parents they may fall very short.
It all tends to fall into semantic arguments.
Or maybe Mallory is embarrassed because she doesn’t know what she wants to do with her life, either.
Well, if Nadette’s parents have a family business, maybe that’s what will work in.
I guess we’ll have to wait and see what Ms. Alger has to say.
Dette may need to focus a bit if she does not want to fall into the celebutante path, Her world probably does not need another Paris Hilton
Aw, but she’d be cute as Paris Hilton. With a pet bear.
Don’t need the first Paris Hilton either . . . and neither do we.
mrs Hilton is actually a billionaire in her own right. She apparently plays the airhead act rather well. she manages her buisnesses rather well

Hey! Castela isn’t an infernal machine, she’s a person, with opinions and feelings!

Your daddy’s rich, and your momma’s good looking…so hush little baby don’t you cry.
Very good….
except with boredom???
I new a guy in university, with a very rich business family, but they forced him to go get qualifications, to learn the meaning of it all..
heh, that ain’t nothing. back when i was in boot camp, there was this guy that was in our company that got caught THROWING AWAY his UNSIGNED pay-checks in the trash, he explained that he’s already a Millionaire and that those paychecks were LESS than chump change to him, and it wasn’t worth his time and effort to bother cashing them out., but… to get any further with his dad’s will and testament, he had to join the military and serve at least 8 years in whatever service he felt like joining, before he got to change it to him being a “multi-Billionaire” (note the B in that last term)…
It kind of boggles me a little bit how casually she can say, “My parents are wealthy, I don’t need to worry about working”.
Well, she could mean ‘My parents will have a job for me.’ With ‘…and that’s OK with me’ implied.
I’m a little concerned that maybe her parents might *want* her to do something other than sponge off of them. Has she even talked to them about her future?
She also has the whole Oracle thing going on…MIB would probably frown on her playing the stock and futures markets!
I’ll be damned; I didn’t know Nadie came from a well-to-do family…
you didn’t get that from the Egg-Nog incident? you do NOT find log cabins like that in the cheap districts of towns…
I wonder what Berndine’s sheet looks like.
Because heavens be damned if you don’t know what you want to do for the rest of your life as a teenager.
I remember a comedian, apostrophising children: “Do you know why adults keep asking you what you want to be when you grow up? They’re looking for ideas.”
We make high-schoolers ask before going to the restroom, then turn around and demand they make life-altering decisions regarding their career.
Yeap.
Can’t leave the premises without permission, but must know life plan before leaving.
Can’t drink until they’re 21, but eligible to risk life and limb for country at 18 (or younger).
I probably would have made some very different decisions if I’d had a couple years to really think things through
Hey, back to school for a while.
There’s Rich, then there’s Filthy Rich, then there is Obscenely Wealthy
Now ask yourself why words like Filthy and Obscene attach to success.
Well, that’s why they coined the word “inordinately”
Jealousy

I’m leaning toward a “Bear” market.
yeah. they just invest in anything that seems bearish.
Ha!

If I remember correctly, Nadette has a lot of difficulty with math problems 😖
