As I recall, Tina and Brandi are about the same height, 5’10” or thereabouts, whereas, in the early strip, Jacqui appears taller than Tina, therefore taller than Brandi. Jacqui must be a big Nordic girl.
“Oh, you dweebs. It’s so much simpler than that. She’s a half-plant, half-human hybrid, capable of vaporizing half of the city if she gets upset, and her 6300-year-old sextuple-chimeric mother is worried about her temper.”
That about covers it. Something else – I was cracking wise about Luci being the “Punk,” but Luci is SO Controled, and reserved … there’s a very good chance her “skill set” includes that she was once VIOLENT.
Cut them some slack, Shelly. This request IS coming from an important-looking (and admittedly dangerous) lady being escorted by armed Men-In-Black. Both of their theories are WAY more normal than the damned truth!
And… actually kinda close to the truth: Kath is ‘some high-ranking bigwig’, just one who prefers to stay under the radar (that’s if she even knows how highly ranked she truly is)
Exactly what I was thinking. Also while Castela isn’t in the witness protection, she does kinda need to be kept secret, or at least a few details about her. As ones outside “the know” they got the situation incredibly close!
Shelly’s response should be amusing. This really should be a full-disclosure conversation, and since Brandi was asking for somewhere private, I can only guess she has one or two other students there. The earlier views of the studio makes me think there’s enough room for Shelly’s Sphinx form. Or course, as proof of the paranormal there’s also Brandi’s Jaguar form, Monica’s Poit ability/Jaguar Girl form, Tepoz, or (my personal choice) having Shelly’s own elemental appear…
Nice, treat them to one of the few beings we know might be even more powerful than Cas, a being who always is brutally honest, and looks like something that crawled out of a graveyard just last night. You like to hit things with the big sledge, don’t ya?
Well, she can appear “normal” when she wants to. She’s just able to look extra-freaky at a whim. Besides, if they agree to teach Castela then they’ll eventually be treated to something supernatural. It might be as simple as roses in her hair, or we might get this. They need to know who they’re dealing with before they can help her.
Jacqui will be in good company. Castela has been investigating ghosts, and she’s also a plant who has been undergoing sudden, inconvenient growth spurts from one day to the next – she’s the real Night Stalker of the group.
They are not there to physically stop Brandi, just kinda help keep her ‘in check’ if there are people keeping an eye on her: harder to be a manipulative chessmistress if someone is watching every move you make, specially if they are of the ‘squishy’ variety (Brandi’s conscience won’t allow her to deliberately hurt someone)
Exactly! in terms of them being armed, yes. In terms of extra sets of eyes, presumably trained observers, and familiar with her normal range of behavior? Brandi, with good reason, doesn’t trust her own ability to notice if her behavior has changed. With close friends around her, she wouldn’t need the entourage.
Jacqui is still who we remember. I’m not sure about Brandi.
Brandi runs hot and cold, smart and slow.
She’s running “smart” at the moment, though I’m still not sure why she needs the posse…
As she said earlier, she likes to keep an eye on herself.
Maybe someone from the paranormals will tell here there are no such things as aliens.
Well, when several paras can be classified as aliens…
Extraplanar beings still count as aliens.
given the nature of this comic, is the notion of flying saucers really that far a stretch?
For those doubting Jacqui’s height, she looks quite tall in this strip, bent over to lean on the counter.

But Brandi is usually drawn taller than most of the group and Shelly as rather short. Here it looks reversed.
Yeah, I totally messed up on Shelly’s placement on that last frame. I’ll try to fix that.

Then poit Katherine and Castela into Pink Yoga.
Pink? Or Punk?
Oops!
🙂
That about covers it. Something else – I was cracking wise about Luci being the “Punk,” but Luci is SO Controled, and reserved … there’s a very good chance her “skill set” includes that she was once VIOLENT.
that’s been established.
It’s been established she was in juvey. What her crime was hasn’t been mentioned, in the strip, at least.
I believe she once mentioned that at one point she was an “angry girl with a knife” or something along those lines.
Dammit, put that comment in the wrong spot.
“Nono, nothing like that – she’s just able to level an entire city if she goes off the reservation.”
O!O
And has a bad case of the hormones right now…

So, who’s going to ask her: “Miss Gilcrist, do you realize just how big a wig you really are?” 😛
Atsali knows her mom is “a ranking member of MIB,” so mom must know it too.

Oh, and “Yes” to the big sledge question, but only sometimes…
“She is the daughter of that lady that we met a few years back at Darin’s place — the one with the spiders!”
“Oh wait, *IS* she in a witness protection program and needs to be *KEPT* secret?”
No and yes.
… and her face resets! SO! Jacqulin is a Kolchak. [Nah, too competent and pretty.] She’s a Scully, and she’s been spelunking the X-files.
Jacqui will be in good company. Castela has been investigating ghosts, and she’s also a plant who has been undergoing sudden, inconvenient growth spurts from one day to the next – she’s the real Night Stalker of the group.
I think Jacqui is more like a Mulder. “The answer is out there!”
The answer is so out there, it’s looped around and peering over your shoulder
It does seem silly to have guards on someone who makes the Tsar Bomba look like a wet firecracker.

NOW that explains the attitude… When in doubt prepare to play hardball
Shelly thinks their wild conspiracy guesses are just adorable! 😀
Is this where they finally drop the bomb on her and she gets filled in on the whole thing?
Maybe Shelly will be able finally to come clean about what happened to a certain punching bag!
