Why does that seem like a terribly irresponsible idea?

      Because it’s fun.

Roller skates are easier to steer and adjust for terrain changes without using the hand you’re trying to hold onto the leash with.

I used to do that all the time when I was a kid it was awesome. Didn’t work out so well when I later tried it with two of my dogs though.

A friend of mine wanted to start breeding dogs & started with two Alaskan Malamutes; these are dogs bred with strength & endurance for sled pulling. He was smart to NOT try roller skates for walkies…

In Alaska, they do that with horses and skis; it’s called skijoring

I tried giving my dog a walk while rollerblading. This is pretty much what happened. I couldn’t stop her either. I had to dive into somebody’s lawn just to avoid falling face-first on concrete.

And yet, somehow, it was ridiculously fun, though I never got to try it again…

I’ve seen turtles move surprisingly fast, actually. Not nearly as fast as a dog, mind you, but way faster than any critter famous for its slowness has any right to move. Probably wouldn’t be strong enough to pull you though. :/

Most move as fast as their short legs can carry them when they need to.
However the image most of us have in our heads is the giant tortoise we saw on National Geographic as kids. 😛
