Most children these days don’t get enough of either. Decade after decade, the cost of living rises, incomes don’t, and many parents are now both working 12 hour days, and paying strangers to spend more time with their children than they ever will.
By child-logic/instinct, in the absence of one type of attention, the other will suffice. They can’t bear being ignored more than anything.
And many do not grow beyond this stage emotionally.
It’s amazing how this little epiphany misses a lot of people.
