That’s what tends to happen to Tsunderes in real life.
They make a wonderful female love interest in serial fiction, because you can just keep the romantic tension going without resolution indefinitely. Great if you’re a manga author hoping for a long-running series.
In real life, there’s a threshold very quickly reached where the guy goes “Mmmkay. I admit you’re very attractive, but also consistently horrible to be around. I’m going to try and find a girlfriend who will be nice to me at least SOME of the time. Bye now. Please erase my contact info.”
@fairportfan
You’re talking about the “dere” part?
“Initially cold, temperamental, hotheaded before gradually showing a warmer, friendlier side over time.”
My point is that by the time a real life girl who is openly hostile in her first, 2nd, 3rd… 11th impressions, gets around to “gradually showing that she has a softer, warmer side”… That dude has probably already written her off and trying to build something with the other girl who was nice from the start.
Anime is an entertainment medium, not a guide for how to find, build, maintain, or keep successful relationships.
*far future SPOILER*
I don’t know what kind of boyfriend she needs, but it is ironic – since when she finally draws the winning lot in the romance stakes, it’s actually a girlfriend. But then as we’ve seen with Mon and Jet, then Atsali and Nadette, then Kath and Bryn, this comic is slowly edging towards maximum lesbian capacity. Not that that’s a bad thing really.
Timothy was manifestly not oblivious. Timothy just gave Castela a great big “fuck you.” He was right to walk away, but it’s pretty damned cold to walk away without a backwards glance or a “Later, Castela.”
Eh, that’s not a “fuck you”. It is a strong statement that she doesn’t own him, and she’s not treating him with a lot of respect.
A fuck you requires toppings and a cherry, like thanking her for the rescue while still in earshot. 😀 Yanno, a twist of the knife, not a slap on the wrist for, like, acting so so very tsundere.
Very true: his last lines heavily imply that, if he didn’t know at the start, he certainly knew at the end
The way she was acting the whole time? She’s lucky he didn’t flip her off
Despite the way Castela’s been acting, its still pretty shitty of him to just leave without a backwards glance. When I’ve gone out with friends to… you know… hang out without any romantic implications whether i was interested in them or not, I don’t expect them to just buzz off at first opportunity.
I actually had someone do that, she and I were out and about spending time together and one of her friends (not mine) showed up and she goes “Yeah I’m not busy lets go get lunch” and walked away leaving me in the middle of downtown by myself. Luckily for me, i was the driver so i went home. Got a call about an hour later from her bitching that I’d left her downtown. We weren’t friends for too long after that (and there went any want i ever had for dating her either)
This. So very this. I regret Paul’s comments system doesn’t give me the option to upvote your post.
I had that happen to me too. I went to a company christmas party with a friend, yes I was interested in her, and she jammed off with a few friends while I was still eating dinner. I wasn’t the driver but I found friends I wanted to hang out with at the bar and *she* had to come looking for *me*.
I get that Casetla is a para, but you do NOT ditch friends at a con that they have never been to before, if the explicit agreement was that you were going as a pair. Even if it isn’t a date.
And yes, Castela was being a pain in the ass. It’s still absolutely shitty to ditch her at a con where she knows no one else, especially when you are refusing to even look at them as you walk away.
yes you do. especially if one of them is being a douche.
not only will I ditch someone. If they are a big enough douche i will fail to give them a lift home.
No, he is letting her know that she does not own him, but if she had said it was a date then he would have staid with her, remember, for what ever reason, he has always liked her, from the time they first met, even if she only started paying attention within the last couple months
A: Behaved violently toward someone who, though a bit overzealous, showed genuine appreciation for Timothy’s costume, (though, as I commented a few days ago she could have been honestly trying to defend him from what she perceived was unwanted attention)
B: Almost immediately afterward spoke rudely to someone else who was also complimenting him on his costume
C: Crawled down his throat just because he didn’t have an instant answer to a question that might require a little thought.
All while insisting they weren’t on a date.
He might have brushed her off a little callously, but she’s given him every reason to think he’ll have more fun eating bento boxes with Scarlet than he will if he keeps hanging out with Castella.
You can find about Nodwick if you start here: http://comic.nodwick.com/?comic=2001-01-01
By the way, if you can figure out how to make the panel big enough to read, would appreciate you letting me know 😀
You know, after several archive binges, it finally occurs to me. Castela and Timothy have a relationship much like what Owen and Shelly had growing up.
Shot down by her own mouth!

An important point about the tsundere is that she ISN’T (necessarily) “consistently horrible to be around”.
Well put, Hinoron.

Aaaaand, everything just went South for Castela..
Castella seemed to just realize it was one. Timothy was oblivious it was one and the cluelessness factor abounds…
No, Timothy took castella at her repeated, adamant word.
I think Castela can do better than Timothy.
There’s nothing wrong with him in this situation, it’s her.
In this situation, you’re right, but she needs a more forceful type for a boyfriend.
Of course, then this would be a date…
Jeff Weiner: seems to me he doesn’t need to be forceful, that he, so far, has been very patient with Stela
*far future SPOILER*

oh it is… ive done this exact thing in this situation.
Very true: his last lines heavily imply that, if he didn’t know at the start, he certainly knew at the end
The way she was acting the whole time? She’s lucky he didn’t flip her off
Castela, this sort of backfire is why you don’t tsundere. XD
Scarlet is the one with a semi-stalker crush on Timothy right? I call bullshit on her not knowing he’s an anime fan. XD
Open mouth, insert foot……to the knee! Way to Tsundere there Castela.
Wait a minute… people aren’t doormats?
Thicker than a ticket taker’s twaddle. Both of them.
I think i like that expression. Where’s it from?
First heard it in an episode of Red Dwarf, bUT I believe it comes from Tom Waites.
That whole ‘not a date’ ruse just up and bit her in the weeds.

If you had been acting the same way to your friend as Stela was to Timmeh, then wouldn’t blame your friemd for acting that way

Wow, good on him. He actually has a spine.
Yup, was just thinking that
wow… hes is SO dead. and Castella is SO so mortified.
Interesting theories abound, but my guess that Timothy is pressing the issue here and is expecting Castela to shit or get off the pot…
No, he is letting her know that she does not own him, but if she had said it was a date then he would have staid with her, remember, for what ever reason, he has always liked her, from the time they first met, even if she only started paying attention within the last couple months
Oh, and, altogether now…
“how could we possibly have known this would happen”?
So now, Timothy wants her ben(d) to a box? *wink, wink, nudge, nudge *
Say no more!
Three things come to mind…
1. They arrived separately and will leave separately. He’s not reliant on her or her on him.
2. She just got done jumping down his throat for no good reason.
3. She apparently keeps reminding him that it’s not a date, they aren’t attached.
I don’t think he’s thick or oblivious and I do think he’s doing the smart thing here.
Castella, within the space of a few hours:
A: it was not unwanted attention (from him at least) because he willingly went with them, it was only ‘unwanted’ from Stela
I’m afraid I don’t know what a Luffy is. But for some reason Timothy’s starting to remind me of Nodwick.
Luffy is the main character from an anime, “One Piece.” In fairness I have no idea who/what a Nodwick is!

Castella, my dear, I think your alligator mouth overloaded your little monkey ass.
Yeah, I’m in the “Timothy knows what he’s doing” camp.
I don’t know if Timothy knows what he’s doing.
But he’s doing it right!
You know, after several archive binges, it finally occurs to me. Castela and Timothy have a relationship much like what Owen and Shelly had growing up.
