Awfully late, isn’t it?
I think this is one of the big weaknesses in Paul’s writing (which is otherwise great storytelling!) He doesn’t always establish details when they first become relevant. They’re in his head, but he forgot to tell US about them.
Just think of how long it took him to let us know Tepoz was supposed to be BLUE! Years! It’s a B&W comic!
She got a bigger family, safety, stability, a home, friends, a girlfriend, a mom. She had her adventures and reaped the rewards for it, far beyond anything she expected. She’s happy. Why would she want to do something that might risk things changing, like moving away?
Well said. She’s safe and loved and now ‘they’ want to toss her out in the world again. It would take a lot of prying to get me off my own floor of a converted warehouse.
Astali, everybody comes home on the weekends if they are able/live close enough. How else are you going to get your laundry done? That stuff’s not cheap…
sure if Dragon’s Wall College is a LOCAL college she could fly (well, except for the whole being shot dead on sight, from those humans that Phix was talking about when M and Shelly did their Parkour race to Stella’s Fish place…) but what if it’s elsewhere, someplace far away, kinda how it was for Harry Potter… relative to Surrey, England where the Dursley’s lived, versus Scotland where Hogwart’s is… you can’t just “go home” every weekend… more likely though, it’s because: A) the flying distance is too far. B)The Portal Network is OFF-LIMITS to STUDENTS, except for emergency’s etc… and C)it’s school policy just to avoid oh, i don’t know… student dropouts maybe? or maybe D) they will be too frickin’ BUSY to go home AT ALL, until the Xmas break when EVERYBODY goes home… and possibly even E) the reason it’s called Dragon’s Wall is because the dragon that lives there is jealous/protective of those that it considers “HIS” leaving before he wants to let them go… ie, he thinks the students are his “treasure” and doesn’t like to “lose” any and it’s only after they graduate that he let’s them go?? 😀
@scantrontb – when have you ever gotten the impression that the Library portal system was off-limits to anyone in the know? Cause’ it seems to me your whole argument is based on “well it worked that way in Harry Potter”. This ain’t Harry Potter.
Let’s not even mention how confining the student body to campus is a tried and true method of avoiding dropouts. So long as you substitute ‘students’, ‘campus’ and ‘dropouts’, with ‘inmates’, ‘prison’ and ‘escapees’, respectively.
Also, college is a lot of work, certainly – but it’s an educational institution, not a forced labour camp. Nobody benefits anything if they work their students to mental exhaustion and cause them to burn-out. With an instantaneous transport system i.e. the Library, there’s simply no way you wouldn’t find the time to visit.
And as for reason E – that assumes (and you know what they say about those) that the dragons of Wapsiverse are jealously protective/possessive or indeed sapient. Besides the fact that, sure it’s called that because of a Dragon – just as Gryphon High had all those Gryphons. Ever hear of a mascot?
As Akmar mentioned… you can FLY Atsali, silly girl. Coming home on the weekends shouldn’t be an issue. Even if Atsali couldn’t fly, I’m sure she could take a ‘shortcut’ thru the Library, although Phix might get her panties in a bunch if she wander thru with her laundry….
I hope Katherine is right. Over the last couple weeks, I’ve been seeing what happened, and what can happen, to a converted warehouse in Oakland, California.
I feel her on that one. When I was in the Marine Corps I was based in North Carolina. But I live in Los Angeles! I used to hate those guys that lived on the east coast and used to drive home every weekend. I wanted to go home every weekend too!
(T_T)
Oddly enough, I felt the same when I first went to college. But when I got there, I was so caught up in things home never crossed my mind. My mother, on the other hand, called me every evening for the first year! 😀
What you have to consider, Atsali, is whether your mom wants you home every weekend. Her life is going to change, too, and she won’t want you jerking her backwards every few days.
Karen: “Okay Atsali, I’ll level with you; I’m planning to use the big open space of your floor for several wild sex parties with a dozen or so of my more open-minded para friends, but if you don’t come back until Christmas, I can PROMISE that I can have everything back where you left it and the smell cleared out by then. Fair?”
Atsali: “MOOOOOOOOOOOM!?!! This is serious!”
Karen: “… but I WAS being… um… Ahahah! You got me, kid! Can’t fool you, can I? Eheh…”
I dont know I’d call them spoiled, remember Castela is ‘special’, (keeping her in the more industrial part of town is a good idea), and Atsali has wings, can fly, and is pretty damned Tall to boot- having room to fly indoors its a great idea.
The more this goes on the less I’m finding I like these characters. It’s hard to have concern or compassion for people who have been given everything and have ridiculous amounts of privilege.
Well, we now know the important details of their home.

Oh, poor Atsali. What happened to the brave young adventurer that freed the Lanthans?

I don’t think distance matters, what with the library portals to help. She might be able to visit whenever she wants.

Well she’s never more than a phone call from some quite powerful people who wouldn’t mind poiting her home.

Whose panties are we talking about here? Phix’s or Atsalis?
😋

5 storey warehouse home. I want that

methinks she has issues with separation anxiety (don’t we all)
And I was about to say that myself, Centaur71.

Karen? Who is ‘Karen’? o_O
Kath’s alter ego?
Whoops.
Whoops.

Heh, that’ll change quickly.

There are other comics, isn’t it?
Your sister will totally steal your room. TRUST ME.
