I’ll throw out my guess for what happens next: Timothy sees her fall and comes over to help her up. it sorta kinda turns into a “friend” type of hug… and Pickle only comes into view during the hug portion, and gets steamed all over again!
dang!, BOTH lenses broken in her glasses, AND a really badly skinned up knee… and with the angle of her feet/legs in panel 1, and her silhouette in panel 4, I’ll bet a twisted ankle too…
No kidding… I think a general rule of thumb of glasses made of actual glass is that they be shatter-resistant. Plastic is typically used for children and sports. Had to be a heck of a fall.
I can relate to her pain of sprained/twisted ankles. Also if you notice the little crisscross lines underneath the tear on her sock. She scuffed/scratched her leg up pretty good too.
‘Glass’ Glasses still remain, but have, for a long time now, been made of a rated material (type of glass) that must be able to resist a ballbearing (about a one pound weight iirc?) from a certain height (maybe a foot?) and not shatter…. [yeah, as I Googlearound I see there’s a bunch of stuff out there re: ‘Impact testing…’].
I’d say though, that the bottom of the lenses being uncovered (unframed) could still find them broken like that.
Broken Glasses as metaphor for symbolic heart feels…
He helps her to her feet and it’s NOT a ‘friend’ type of hug.
After all, she’s just shown she can be selfless and he did show her a lot of keen attention on her costume and went off with her to spend time. Might just come do to whether the lad has a say in it.
Tennis balls propelled at 40 mph shattered high-index plastic lenses, while balls at 55 mph shattered allyl resin plastic lenses and those at 89 mph shattered glass lenses. Polycarbonate, a heavier plastic, lenses did not shatter at 89 mph, Vinger found.
Polycarbonate lenses with a center thickness of 1 millimeter withstood the impact of a baseball fired at 94 mph. An average 10-year-old child can throw a baseball about 50 mph.
Interesting to note… I reLly thought plastic lenses were stronger… Though I did think glass was stronger than it sounded. It’s supposed to be shatter resistant s glasses. As a kid, I’d be kind of surprised if hers weren’t polycarbonate….. But it would depend on the budget their family has and Scarlett on preferences, I guess. Still, seems like it means she took quite a tumble if her glasses shattered… I’d have thought the frameless features would break first… I don’t know, I’ve never had glasses shatter, and I’ve put quite a few pairs through the ringer.
All I can think of when seeing that panel, sadly, is how expensive that meant that day just got for me…. My polycarbonates se EXPENSIVE
Oh, certainly. I honestly didn’t look extremely hard for further studies, and couldn’t find anything more specific than projectile force either. I apologize, the point I was trying to imply is that… It took a heck of a lot of force for those glasses to break like that… There’s just no other way. I can’t think of any glasses, even cheap ones, that would break with a trip. I would worry about scratches and possible chips, sure, but not full on shattering.
yep, that’s why I’ve just gotten into the habit of permanently getting ANSI Z87+ glasses… OSHA Safety Glasses rated for impact. i have to wear glasses all the time as I’m nearsighted, and i hate, Hate, HATED the whole routine of: “go inside swap glasses, go to work swap to work glasses, get in the car and swap to sunglasses… blech…” now they’re OSHA safety glasses, that have photo-grey on them so i only have ONE pair now! and depending on sales at the time i get them updated, $200- $250-ish is a good enough price for me…
That is the average of what one of my lenses might cost me without glasses. I’m extremely nearsighted.. It’s polycarbonates, or they’re too, cray thick.,
Akamar, Go to your doc and get a full prescription that includes interpupilary distance (close and far view), ask the doc for your frame and earpiece sizes and buy your glasses online.
I wear trifocals, use UV-coated flyweight ultrathin ANSI Z87 poly lenses with titanium frames, and pay less than $100 online. Same glasses at a brick and mortar: $1100. That’s not a typo.
Seriously, you can save a fortune if you shop carefully online.
I happen to use eyebuydirect for mine now, but there are a lot of good stores online and the savings are amazing, especially if you can wait for a sale and are flexible about specific frames.
Maybe one for the TMI file, but my heart goes out to her. I’m on a walker, can’t feel probably 75% of either my hands or feet extending into the calves and forearms. There’s several slipped discs and one that’s torn and leaking. There’s also serious spinal deterioration in the lower vertebrae. Falls are my number one fear. Out of five over the last few years twice I’ve been able to crawl across the house (an excruciating adventure on it’s own taking at least half an hour) and get up under my own power. The other three required being able to scream loud enough to wake someone (I don’t want the fire rescue people kicking in the door and leaving the house insecure) to call 911 and an ambulance ride, they always insist, to the ER to get x-rays, CAT scans depending on the pain level. Perhaps I over shared. But I know that ‘owie’ better than most.
Hawk, hide a key outside the house, in one of those rocks or a magnetic box.
That way you can tell 911 how to get in without damage, and just have a friend or family member move the key after the rescue people visit. A backup plan is always good.
Alternatively, you can give a key to the local fire station or a trusted neighbor if a hidden key bothers you too much.
Getting help standing up rather than killing yourself crawling across the house, in pain, has to be better in the long run. And yes, you can flatly refuse the ambulance ride and there isn’t anything they can do about it. They won’t be happy, but their happiness isn’t your problem.
Stashing a key’s a good idea, have to think about that. I don’t often refuse the ER trip as it was a fall that put me in this condition. Two weeks in the hospital, two months in physical rehab relearning to walk and use my hands. Nothing works right still so if I need aid getting up I figure it’s worth getting checked out. But thank you for your concern and suggestions. I truly appreciate it.
That could be a negative, though.
Depending on how closely she follows her animal side.
That said, I don’t think either cats or foxes can see into the UV. Deer, yes.
A quick check of the web yields this. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cat_senses
Looks like cats, at least, might well be able to see some UV.
So “Clear” Polycarbonate lenses might be like wearing tinted lenses for us. Not a complete handicap, but a possible annoyance to avoid.
I know the pain she must be feeling in her leg. I still have a dent in my leg from when I took a nasty fall a couple of winters ago. Same spot and leg too. She’s had one heck of a day and she needs all the hugs right now.
I vote for Pickle winds up coming to her rescue, and they wind up having a heart-to-heart and realizing the best thing to do is stand back and give Timmy some time to process all this and make a choice, or no choice, on his own.
I think it would be so adorable if a nice, sensitive fellow notices her obvious physical and mental pain and stops to lend a hand. Make her forget all about Timmy and Castela!

I’m not even sure how common real glass glasses are anymore. I’m neither a child nor athletic in any way and mine are acrylic.
think that’s some ripped socks/stockings, as she’s clearly wearing them. ~<3
I can relate to her pain of sprained/twisted ankles. Also if you notice the little crisscross lines underneath the tear on her sock. She scuffed/scratched her leg up pretty good too.
Yup, ripped sock and bloodied leg 🙁

My guess is Pickle is the one who helps her to her feet, ignorant of the sword she just spit herself on, but that’s just my guess.

Dammit, Paul! I can feel the ache AND the gravel rash!
This is gonna sound coldl but this is why you don’t run while weeping @-@ will end badly for other parts of your body like ouchies indeed.
Do they still even make glasses with glass lenses?

Lenses made from glass, allyl resin plastic and high-index plastic – which represent more than 80 percent of U.S. sales – shattered at that speed, the study said.

Note that that article was written in ’97 and the data it was based on was old at the time. Polycarb lenses are far more common now.
Honestly, the level of impact required to break a polycarbonate lense is far more than is required to break most frames!

It might be worth remembering that she’s a Para on a cat mold.
Just how fast was she going, and with how much force, when she faceplanted?
She’s a fox, Sean.

“Somebody needs a hug.”
“EVERYBODY needs a hug. The dilemma is who needs one most, at any given moment.”
I’m impressed that, at a time of profound emotional and physical stress, she has not reverted to leonine form.
And by a wonderful, heartrending storyline.
I think she’s vulpine…
Yep, Tim is the lion, Scarlet is the *snerk* Fox.
I really thought they were both cats of one variety or another.
http://wapsisquare.com/comic/have-your-back/
Do foxes have broad noses? She still looks feline, to me.
http://wapsisquare.com/comic/eager-study-buddy/
here is where she mentions the vulpine color of her hair. She’s a fox.

Polycarbonate also blocks UV without coatings if I remember right.
That could be a negative, though.

Hoping someone helps her up, preferably Aunt Bud. Poor kid’s had a rough enough day
🙁
*crouch a safe distance away* Hey, your leg looks like it hurts, would you like me to help you? Or maybe get a nurse?
I know the pain she must be feeling in her leg. I still have a dent in my leg from when I took a nasty fall a couple of winters ago. Same spot and leg too. She’s had one heck of a day and she needs all the hugs right now.
She really fell hard…
A trifle melodramatic but I’ll roll with it if Paul delivers tomorrow.

“Owie.” ⁉️
Just ^how^ old is Scarlet supposed to be⁉️
