You are mistaken. You’re forgetting Jacob the Satyr (Randi’s brother, and a short-time hottie interest for Atsali) and Daniel (Jessie’s brother). We haven’t seen them in a long time… but they do exist in the comic.
I think we have a foot mouth insert situation with Hiroshi… and it seems that he can’t help it either, he wants to make it better but he keeps doing it time after time…
Since the girls who were after him decided they preferred each other maybe he can start a harem with these two.
He really just seems to be trying to be friendly and acknowledging them as worthwhile people. Of course I’ve always been opaque to some of the more obscure social rituals going on around me until someone else pointed out the significance.
Hiroshi needs to shut his mouth right now. He already melted these two little Nerdlets brains. Now is he trying to kill them with him saying he thinks they are awesome and cool. TIM! Yo! TIM! slap tape or a ball gag On the Hot stupid one’s mouth. Right now before he says something else. to cause the new girls to die or melt into the floor. ( we will worry and deal about the ball gag Connotations later.)
P.S. New club rule Hiroshi is not allowed to speak in any way shape or form with out raising his hand and then whispering it to Tim. So to filter out the clueless and or stupid. ( and or nerd girl killing effects.)
A reluctant admission: I must be as clueless as Hiroshi – true story, I don’t detect what he did wrong here. O’ course, I’m sure I lack most (or all) of his hotness, so there’s that. /puzzle /sigh
Another Mars/Venus issue. Hiroshi sees things one way, and is just acting naturally according to his worldview while Scarlet has to explain to him, again, how he affects other schoolgirls around him. Not as much as a hoof and mouth disease as a normal male teenager(*) obliviousness methink.
(*) or adult, elders, pick your age group actually, it applies.
“Insensitive?” …
I did misspeak and made an unwarranted assumption, but it wasn’t about gender. [The assumption is that I am speaking of Mindy.] If you skip over the Characters Footnote, and go directly to the Comments, as is my habit, there are no visual, or spoken clues whatever until panel 3 of the “Broke Them” page. *Puts On Fair Witness Robes of Office*
o To be fair Scarlet’s “Girls?” statement is also confused. [Whether over discovering that both are actually Seniors, or that both are in Vapor Lock is unclear.]
o We are still unclear as to what order Hiroshi identified them [his left to his right, the other way round, back to front- from his perspective or simply taller and shorter.] I may or may not have correctly identified one as Mindy. [The Characters Notes are no help here.]
o The operative word is “Androgynous.” One of them clearly is. Their choice of School Uniform includes a Vest, and in their first panel appearance their shirt tails are untucked [acceptable for a Nerd, but not ,usually a Female one.]
o [I will not go into it here, but I can “hear” tone-of-voice in printed dialog.] There is little help here. Their conversation is un-inflected, aside from the sprinkling of movie quotes. There is continual, flashing of their Nerd Credentials. This is practiced and … fluid. There is little, or no personal information, or indication of actual emotional state, and if you are not paying attention to their use of references, you may as well be trying to “read” the Cone-Heads.
o Their expressions are correspondingly Dead-Pan, and largely unreadable, except when they punctuate the movie quotes they speak in, or when they are “nuked from orbit” [the first time the short one showed any expression at all!]
o Neither has any discernible figure. [The tall one IS using arguably female body language, and covering her chest, and the short one is slightly pudgy. We do not, yet see either from the waist down.
*Takes off Robe, folds, and returns to storage in Hammer Space*
So … my apologies to Barbara, if I got her name wrong, and Mindy?? for calling her “fat.”
I am required to state ALL my observations.
Don’t be! So am I. I was amused, and Bushwhacked by the Muse. Anyone who knows me can tell you my sense of humor is also Dead-Pan, and … ever so slightly on the Arid side, [Sarcastic side too.] I am also Joking. I am perfectly happy to apologize to any fictional characters that were offended. No harm No Foul
I should remember to include my little laughing Icon with glasses when I’m not wearing the Cowl. 8D Peace
o Is the folder, or it’s contents, really that precious? I concede the point that she is holding it that way BEFORE encountering Scar. [so not a reaction, more of a habitual posture, like the slight slouch of the “too tall.”]
o Sorry “Glaring Fact”[same page, Panel 3] Pudgy and some what … casual about her appearance.
The small one as you call her ( Mindy I think) is doing a “Velma Dinkley” And hiding any shape she has under layers of clothing. ( Velma used a big fluffy oversized sweater.) I have know more then a few “nerd girls” who have used the same tactic. The nerd girls think or assume maybe correctly in some cases. That if they show any hint of an feminine shape. IE. “mammal bumps” This will make anything they say that is intelligent be diminished by the males in the room. Because of the old stereotype that girls who are “sexy” or Beautiful are dumb as a rock. The other reason this is done. Is they are shy and trying to make themselves less noticeable. A very long time ago when I was in high school I didn’t fit into any group. I was smart as the “Nerds”, but hated the “Jocks” for the way they lorded their so called status over everyone else. and I was strong enough to routinely wind up in the office for beating the crap out of bullies. I was kind of a cross between Fonzie ( happy days) and Sheldon (big bang) but no where near as cool. Pretty much everyone stayed the heck away from me. I had a anti-social teen angst thing going on then. The point I am making is. The girls I was attracted to were the smart nerdy girls. the ” velma’s” and I can say that their was a lot of Awesome un-equaled intelligence and beauty tenderness caring, the list goes on and on. Under all that cloth they hide under. including physical beauty. real proof you can’t judge a book by it’s cover. So maybe this “Mindy” is the total “Hottie” under all that cloth. We may never know now because Hiroshi broke her and her friend Barbara.
For what it’s worth, seems like Girl With Glasses (name to be worked out eventually) doesn’t seem to have the swirly-Tina-eyes behind said glasses. Alas.
Ah, the old brain vapor lock.
Open mouth, insert foot.
To the knee.
Show me someone who puts their foot in their mouth, and I’ll show you a person who enjoys filet of sole…
Get out of here! Shoe, shoe!
Or as a character in another story puts it, they put their foot in their mouth and wiggle their toes.
Me thinks Hiroshi be gay.
My money is on him being as straight as an arrow but all the flight intelligence of a brick…..
Probably a similar case to social context and body language as Atsali.
Hiro is the gender-bent Sali? o_O
Strictly speaking, no. Just a similar issue with reading social situations and cues.
Not literally
Gays?! In this comic?! Only lesbians allowed okay
You are mistaken. You’re forgetting Jacob the Satyr (Randi’s brother, and a short-time hottie interest for Atsali) and Daniel (Jessie’s brother). We haven’t seen them in a long time… but they do exist in the comic.
So someone’s gay (in RL or comics), so what? :-/
WOW! …. Wow, I REALLY need to read the footnotes more carefully! [I only just realized Mindy was Female!]
Wow Indeed. (but now somebody with gender-fluidity* is going to comment on your insensitivity. Watch, I betcha’…)
*As if we weren’t all sloshing around on a Bell Curve.
[singing] “Ring my bell…” [/singing]

Maybe mesmerization is one of Hiroshi’s para powers. One that he doesn’t really realize he has and one he definitely hasn’t gotten control of yet?
Another fiasco with women with Hiroshii in a leading role.
Hiro? Lad? STOP TALKING!! Go sit in the corner looking sexy so the rookie’s can cool off… No! Do not take your shirt off!
I am distintly reminded of this strip http://wapsisquare.com/comic/just-spring-something/
Hello, I’m Captain Jack Harkness!
The difference being, Jack knows he can do that, and often enough has weaponized it. 😉
Early days before the refined cultivation of his abilities. *grin*
Why are you pinching your eyes together like that, Timmy? It does not affect the situation, nor does it have any beneficial physiological impact.
Hiroshi needs to shut his mouth right now. He already melted these two little Nerdlets brains. Now is he trying to kill them with him saying he thinks they are awesome and cool. TIM! Yo! Use the tape, Tim. Save the ball gag for “game night”. 😉 😛
Oops, look like hot boytoy broke the new recruits.
I suggest their first project should be: The Case of the Missing Nose.
Well, Cas and Shawna dodged a bullet… okay, maybe just a Nerf dart, but still
A reluctant admission: I must be as clueless as Hiroshi – true story, I don’t detect what he did wrong here. O’ course, I’m sure I lack most (or all) of his hotness, so there’s that. /puzzle /sigh

The tall one isn’t ‘covering her chest’, she is simply holding her books (or a folder), and don’t really see anything ‘pudgy’ about the short one
Scar’s “Girls?” comment is clearly discovering they are in mind-lock mode and trying to see if they are responsive

Figured it was simply too bulky or heavy to carry any other way
Foiled again in trying to understand inflection over the Interwebz…
(Is it Friday Yet?)
For what it’s worth, seems like Girl With Glasses (name to be worked out eventually) doesn’t seem to have the swirly-Tina-eyes behind said glasses. Alas.
“With great hotness comes great responsibility?”
Who else but a fellow nerd (girl) would paraphrase “Spiderman” “with great power comes great responsibility”
Tim’s reaction: “AUGH”
That’s a them problem, not a him problem.
