he was being an forgetful not an asshole. he plain forgot. he made a mistake. If he agreed to hang with Shawna and just blew her off when he saw Cass. ( IE he remembered agreeing to hang and just didn’t care. ) THEN he be a total asshole. As it is he plain fucked up. he didn’t mean to be mean. As someone who short term memory is pretty much a sieve. I know what this feels like. You have to write everything down. If you don’t then this kind of crap happens. And when this kind of crap happens you feel worse and hate yourself more then anyone else ever could. because you know you fucked up and most likely upset or hurt someone.
P.S. I get around this short term memory problem now buy having an AP on my phone that’s a voice notebook. so when people ask me to meet them or I have other stuff I need to do. I can just hit the AP and leave myself a short note telling me all the stuff id most likely forget if I didn’t have the AP. the fact the AP is available tells me I am not the only person with this same problem. On the upside my long term memory is like book once it’s in my head it’s there forever.
Hiroshi really is kind of a MENTAL butterfly. Scatterbrained and easily distracted. I would suppose it’s a lingering side effect except that he said his mother mentions it. So perhaps the butterfly transformation was more of a “CHOOSE YOUR DOOM!” sort of situation.
Scarlet IS helping, and ‘Stela has taken it on herself to fix it again. In an odd way, THAT may give her just the amount of Emotional “Space” SHE needs. Still think there’s a chance Hiroshi may become, painfully apprised of a local variation of the “Napoleonic Code.” 8D
Seems like Stela is learning: she knows that Shawna likes Hiro, and, while she may want Hiro for herself, she doesn’t come across as the type to ‘win’ this way, look at how things happened with Scar and Timmeh and her
Both Castela and Scarlet get a high score in Doing Right today.
Hiroshi, not so much.
I mean, most of us males were quite capable of being thoughtless idiots at that age (and, no, it doesn’t really wear off after that) but he’s really distorting the whole bell curve.
If he was that clueless back then he may have brought on the butterfly-ing upon himself (although that was an overreaction on the fae girl’s part, IMHO).
Yeah, if you’re that forgetful and you KNOW it, you have to get organized and start writing things down. Fifteen is not too young to start organizing yourself, especially if you have a smartphone with all kinds of organizational apps available for it. (God, what I could have done if smartphones had been available when I was fifteen…)
In my adult life, I’ve been plagued by dreams that I’m supposed to be in a class somewhere but I can’t remember where or when it’s supposed to be. (In my school days, I missed a whole trimester of gym class—because they misspelled my name and I’m not gonna look for my name under one letter when it begins with another.)
This is that point where he should confess: “I am sorry I hurt her feelings, but I lost my focus when I saw you. After spending so much time listening to you before, I grew to care about you. It would be unfair to lead her on, when you and I already have a connection I would rather explore.”
Be a man and make a choice! Emotions are far too high to love triangle this scenerio without some serious collateral damage.
Sadly, the easiest that Hiroshi will be able to “let down” Shawna is a non-fatal crash. She’s totally crushed on him, and at that age there’s very little differentiation between that and true love.
But I agree that it’s easier for him to pay attention to Castela than Shawna.
Castela has previously shown that she possesses some “old soul” wisdom not usually for her (nominal) age… presumably from her ancient-Blackthorn heritage.
Unfortunately for her, it only really seems to kick in when she’s dealing with other people’s issues, and not for her own.
She’s actually quite a bit older than she looks… she was alive (as a plant, not yet able to take humanoid form) when Atsali was a toddler. Even at that point she was apparently sentient, able to understand spoken language, recognize individuals, evaluate threats, and defend Atsali. She (and others) seem to date her “age” from the point at which she first took the form of a humanoid infant.
totally agree. everyone dates Cass from when she was “born” or transmuted into a humanoid form. But she was a good sized plant when she defended toddler Atsali . Cass’s “parents” didn’t just walk into the lab and say its Tuesday let make a human plant hybrid. boom done. It took years. thousands of fails. research. Also once they made her. They had to grow her bigger. When we 1st met Atsali ( when she met Katherine at the library) she was 15. Later we learned Cass was 5 at that time. Atsail was about 3 when plant Cass defended her. so doing a bit of quick reasoning ( and math) Plant Cass was around 10 years old when she transmuted or was “born” into her humanoid (baby) form. Cass is now 15? so that would mean her total age is around ( or at least ) 25.
Hiroshi, when the girl who likes you is telling you you’re an asshole, you need to listen up.

Two for one special at Poseidon Resort, I see.

What? Which version of the Napoleonic Code are you referencing?
In my experience, when someone mentions the Napoleonic Code, he means, “Guilty until proven innocent.” I don’t know if that’s in the Napoleonic Code.

At least Hiro doesn’t appear to be doing it deliberately
What that Fae girl did to Hiroshi was inexcusable, but one has to wonder if it were preceded by an episode like this?
If he was that clueless back then he may have brought on the butterfly-ing upon himself (although that was an overreaction on the fae girl’s part, IMHO).
This is entirely the airhead’s fault.

This is why we write things down, Hiroshi.
Wow. Pickle is way more mature and in touch than I ever was at that age.
Or probably any age.

Monster origins or no, alas Paras are people too…
