Did Bud show Brandi the half-dozen pages of the book that she removed some time ago, that finished the task and allowed us to move forward?

(p.s. – was it intentional that the comic title seems to be missing a final -ng?)

Fixed. It was a character limit on the file name.

They managed to ship it off to the demon realm — where it won’t harm humanity anymore.

And thus begins the demonic version of Wapsi Square?

not really. … well, not moreso anyway.
Basically, if i understand correctly, this is the demons-can’t-just-come-and-go-as-they-damn-well-please era of wapsi. And Brava to Brandi for doing the most awesome tech troubleshooting of all time.

Especially when you consider that Bud’s secret part of the plan was worked out and written on the fly just after the clusterf*** that derailed the last attempt to fix things.

    frankwolftown:
In simplest terms, they opened the door into the realm of the demons, the ‘place out of space and time’, and, in a very busy few minutes, stuffed the calendar machine through that door, removing it from our time stream and neutralizing its effects here, and retrieved Jin’s mother from the other side.
There were other things happening as well – read the strip.

Ya, when one has a “Spring release jar” for house flies, that sort of takes the wind out of any “sinister tendencies” introspective.

Why not just poit somewhere warm and let them out there? Like, I dunno, an aztec temple front yard?

      • randombloke
        January 29, 2010, 5:26 am | #

Well, seeing as how poiting a person seems to teach them how to poit themselves, there might be a risk turning the “flies” into “poits” which would make things awkward when they liberate their cousins from research labs the world over.

Yikes, definitely do not want poiting bugs….

And THIS time I missed some cool action by spending two days in hospital………..with no internet connection (the horror).

Brandi appears to have discovered how to leave herself notes outside the time loop by writing them in a book, The Bibliothique (no greek font on my puter) has a copy of “every book ever written,” ergo, you can pass yourself crosstime notes IF (big if) you have access to the bibliothique.

Brandi’s book most likely only went upto the fixing of the calendar machine. The last loop everyone freaked out and left brandy alone, and she wrote the last details to finish it.

Also nice to see she is not flushing the flies anymore.

I think it’s charming that Brandi assumes the self-manipulation is sinister, when it was probably just the end result of having failed over and over again. Ultimately she had to trick herself to make things work, because she would otherwise be too nice to do what needed to be done.

But the book has torn pages, will Phix even take it back?

Books from the Bibliothiki always return, and they always return whole. Once it’s back on its proper shelf, it will have every page.

Actually, Brandi may not be all that sneaky. I suspect what happened was, in a former cycle, the demons (looking to depose Jin’s Doubt) and maybe Phix explained to her what was going on, and all of them together came up with a plan to fix things. So Bandi’s manipulativeness may have come from outside sources, not the depths of her psyche.

As a sidenote, I’m a bit unclear on how the Key figures into this. Best guess on its timeline I’ve been able to make is, a former Brandi made it and gave it to Phix (or the demons, but I’m not sure material things can enter the Demon realm except through a door like Monica) before the end of that particular cycle. Since things in the Library (and Demon realm) weren’t affected by the Calendar Machine’s glitches, it came through the reset unchanged and Phix (or the demons) gave it to Tina 1.0. When Tina 2.0 popped into existance she didn’t remember where the Key came from but knew it was important enough to take with her when she moved to Wapsi Square. Brandi saw it and somehow recognized it – which would suggest some sort of residual memory from one loop to the next – and, well, here we are, now.

    It’s confusing.

And, as a side note, it would be great for the feeble-minded like myself if, when this arc finally makes it into dead-tree edition, there were a little from-the-horse’s-mouth exposition on how all these events really fit together… 😉

Wait … I believe flies only live about 3 days once they reach maturity. They’d never make it anywhere near to Spring.

Flies can survive freezing and wake up just fine when warmed back up in the spring. My guess is the spring release jar is kept outside, or in the freezer.
