This sounds like another of those situations concerning which even the MIB Manual of Parenting of Precocious Paranormals is lamentably silent. I’d say that it’s unR’lyehble in such matters, but somebody would probably visit a terrible curse upon me if I did so.
It’s canon that part of Castela’s DNA was derived from Blackthorn – Cricket described these as old, guardian plants. Among other things, her Blackthorn ancestry means that the Fae cannot (or will not) harm her.
This is (I think) the first time we’ve ever heard of Blackthorn as an entity in itself, rather than as a species or variety.
I was musing, over in the Forum, that she might be a bit like an aspen. Aspen trees often aren’t individuals and often don’t grow from seeds – they grow up as shoots from an underground root system. There are aspen super-organisms – whole sections of forest up to 100 acres in size, in which the trees are all clones of a single original individual which has spread underground and sent up new shoots. The super-organism colonies can live for thousands of years, even though any one tree has a much shorter lifetime.
Maybe, just maybe, Castela is a bit like that – she’s sort of a “sprout” of the interdimensional Blackthorn, growing into our space-time.
(This all gives new meaning to a common phrase in the building trade: “dimensional lumber”)
Many moons ago I wandered away from Wapsi- the GGG’s had started getting dark, and Monica had started talking in glyphs. By the time I returned, a generation had passed, and a great deal of… stuff had happened. I regretted not having been there through the saga.
It appears I’ve come back just in time for the story to drop back into the epic half-pipe. I have my popcorn and Whiskey Mac. Let’s do this.
First time we’ve heard mention of “Lovecraftian” beings from beyond trying to come back.
We have been introduced to deities that have half-breed offspring living in the world but this is entirely different
I for one am intrigued.
Once again Paul Taylor sneaks a delightfully interesting expansion of his universe into the comic with a casual sentence or two. 🙂
Down the rabbit hole we go, folks . . .
Ia Castela Gilchrist Fhtagn.
Gesundheit.
Ia Ia Katherine Gilchrist, protective Momma with 2 insanely powerful young….Ia.
😉
I can hear the gears grinding to a halt in Kath’s brain
When you think you’re on top of the dimensional chaos, and you discover that you’ve actually been outflanked by it for some time now…
They grow up so fast these days.

Pun Vault. Now.
Dave offers the Pun Vault a tarnished silver coin.
On one side it is engraved “47°9′S 123°43′W”
On the other it is engraved “49°51′S 128°34′W”
And when you flip the coin when it lands it goes *BLOOP!*
While you’re at it, seems like someone needs to start an Alliteration Jar as well! 🤔🤗
Significant Boggle in three, two, one . . .
Should have been checking with Cas more often, Katherine!
“You *do* remember that I’m a Guardian-Class Para, right Mom?” Said the Tumbleweed That Holds The Multiverse Together.
…When you suddenly realize that things are going in directions that you cannot yet define…
,,,O!O,,,
Mom.exe is not responding…

You owe me a cup of coffee and a shirt. It’s been 30+ years since my Amiga days and that blindsided me hard.
I like the hex-encoded plea…
I always wonder why Guru’s have so many kinds of meditation…
Each day is a different new day …
needing a different meditation …
for each new day life lesson ….
What?
Sentient multidimensional entity keeping everything apart. . . watching, judging. . .
*brain pop*
That’s our girl, always finding new friends in unexpected places…
Ah, there’s the other shoe! Ooops, it’s a combat boot…
Ahh… nothing like the reminder that our lovely little stinkeeed is way scarier than just about anyone or anything else in the comic.
well, fuck. I think Kath’s brain just popped out of her left ear and ran screaming for the hills.
I retract my previous statement where I implied Castela broke Operational Security. It seems that she IS the Operational Security.
she’s the security that makes ALL OTHER forms of security seem inoperable
Hmmm…Blackthorn?
Remember – Cricket mentioned she reeked of Blackthorn when they met in the Gryphon cafeteria.

Striving for immortality, perhaps.
… the Aspen, I mean.

Ooh, sounds like a new story arc is forming.
Castela’s “oh, yeah, that” attitude about this makes me think she’ll have a job someday at the post office. As a supervisor.
Language!’ Young Lady!
That last explanation of Castela’s boggled me almost as hard as it boggled Kath!

Little Castle’s getting WAAY too deep for me, my dudes…
