Who was that that Ms Phix ate anyway? I don’t remember.

Somebody she and Shelly had a disagreement with on the Board of Sphinxes…

She ate a couple of people. Besides the person on the “Board,” she ate the apo Meidea for riding her ass at just the wrong time.

I don’t remember Castela catching Phix eating someone being depicted in the comic. I remember Monica seeing and getting traumatized…

When Monica saw it, Phix had said something to herself/her meal about how sometimes she just has to do stuff like that. It wouldn’t be surprising if multiple people who frequent the library have witnessed a predator predating.

I think the mentioned person was a misbehaving demon. She scared Nudge then too…

The trekker term is “red shirt”. Perhaps quite literally, in this case.

There was that one time with the apo mocking her that we have seen. That traumatised poor Monica for quite a while.
    This seems someone else, though.
    Maybe someone stole a book…?

      Someone dog-eared a page.

Most librarians would LOVE to be able to eviscerate for that offense.

So, what penalty do they recommend for actually tearing out a page?
Doing that to a university library book will incite a riot.

Do you think that Phix exchanges tips with Conan the Barbarian on how to deal with troublesome visitors to the library. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conan_the_Librarian The Weird Al Yankovich film UHF showed how Conan the Librarian dealt with overdue books. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZHoHaAYHq8

Not sure what Luci means by “metal,” though we did see Phix playing a Fender bass a few days ago…

Roughly equivalent to “hard core” (not the porn variety).

It just came to me to wonder: Can Castela direct her eye stalks in two directions at once?

    • smparadox
      May 10, 2018, 7:16 pm | # | Reply

Can’t think of a reason why not. Except maybe force of habit from keeping her vision binocular all these years. Squid position their eyes to look in two different directions at the same time until they spot prey, then swivel the eyes around until they are positioned to see the prey with both eyes for better 3D ranging – and they are a lot closer to humans genetically than any plant would be…

(Actually, that’s not valid here, since Castela is more than just plant, and has animal – and I suspect human – DNA spliced with her base plant DNA. But it was fun to point out.)

Typical BDSM rules run counter to the 50 shades of Grey baloney:
A person in total control in the work/life balance tends to be a sub in the bedroom to not have to control everything somewhere. A person who has less control in their work/life tends to be a dom to get more control somewhere in their life.
Tattoos don’t really point to anything; nobody is assuming bikers are masochists, for example.
Given her life choices and the vibe she throws to strangers I’d imagine she’s more likely a dom than sub, but it’s always a crapshoot to assume too much. Ultimately people’s perception of THEMSELVES determines such choices. According to the missus Sharon, Ozzy Ozbourne is apparently vanilla as hell instead of metal in the bedroom. Go figure.

        May 3, 2018, 9:53 am | #

Of course I can’t find the article, now that I need it, but I believe this idea that subs are always people who are bosses in real life has been shown to be a result of bad science – some sociologist who treated the clients of professional dommes as typical of the BDSM-community, without realizing that the prices these ladies charge limit the clientele to the higher income brackets (who are, of course, typically in positions of authority).
The article that has gone missing quoted some later, more inclusive studies as showing that doms AND subs are pretty equally distributed across social classes, income brackets and jobs with much or little responsibility.

      • Fount
        May 3, 2018, 1:50 pm | #

Truthfully? The sub is the one with the most, and final, control of the relationship as they can stop it at any time with a word or gesture. Unless their dom is *not* being a good dom and/or is abusive. I’ve never seen someone as embarrassed as a dom in a new pairing that missed a safe cue. Utterly mortified. There should always be clearly stated boundaries and agreements put in place before play that everyone observes abosolutely.

Topping from below, Fount? sure, it’s a logical result of honest power exchange.

Thorfinn? your comment makes absolute sense given the points you made.
My own experience matched the common belief, never really thought about it.

esh. What a reminder that life is valued at lot less in para society. And I’d be worried about someone who reacts with “Wow she’s so cool and she killed and ate someone!”

I threaten to kill and eat stupid people on a weekly basis. “I would kill you and eat you but I’m afraid of being contaminated by your stupid” is a cut and paste response at this point in my life.

I think it’s more ‘balance’ than ‘weird’. As a child Luci may not have read about all the aspects of Sphinx society. Luci’s response has reminded Castela how impressive Phix really is, and why Castela was sent to Luci for lessons in dealing with things.

Cas would have better luck telling Luci she once saw Phix put the milk in before the tea! (or whichever order is frowned upon by certain sections of tea drinkers)

Worse. Phix takes her tea with milk and lemon (a habit she picked up thousands of years ago, during a vacation to what is now Kurdistan).

To be fair, based on Cass’ reaction in the end, I’m guessing she just wanted to freak Lucy out with a scary story. I don’t think there’s much man-eating going on in the library… It’s a place for kids, too, after all

I would think that if Luci Had actually seen Phix doing that right from the beginning of the killing, she would have a different opinion of it. Especially if it was someone she knew. It’s one thing to hear about it and quite another to see it done in person. I wonder if Castela was, likewise, quite shocked when she first saw it but has since gotten over it? Of course she did pull that Fey’s head off so who knows. Not to mention she isn’t human.

I don’t think we have ever seen this this hapless guy/girl in any strip. Not even in reference. Certainly not the one devoured by Phix and Shelly that one time since this one seems to be human and that one would have been a sphinx.
