“Choose not to listen” karma lesson #1 for the weekend has been delivered.

And, by the way, Paul… that’s great image work there! The visual contrast between the building and the mist is a great touch.

Let’s see how they react to the low-level weirdness, and if they get smart and decide to regroup before exploring…

Yeah, was just going to say: it looks just like the photo, except, it’s now dark, and there is a scare-inducing mist around

Is it just me, or that mansion is EXACTLY like in the pictures?

Yeah, the only differences I’m seeing are the fog and the viewing angle!

And the size – and the fortifications (or whatever the outer walls are). Other than that, exactly the same.

There was just the one picture, and it only showed the central part of the mansion.

But it doesn’t look any different.

that size of mansion should have a big forecourt… unless a big land slide occurred… but no damage to the building??

Could be one of those where the front door is actually in the back. Here’s the forecourt of such a home in Texas. https://tinyurl.com/yytg6akv

It looks more like they just stopped building short of completing the forecourt.

Depends on when it was built . . . at various times, buildings have been designed to be entered in the center (like this one) with identical or nearly identical entrances on each side.

Frequently one side will have a court, the other may have a formal garden or something else . . . apparently this one has a descent into a “wild”.

I wonder if this was built in one of the periods when a hermit was fashionable.

      May 3, 2019, 8:24 am | # | Reply

Nope, not just you, everyone except Pickle recognize it from the single photo

About the only real difference, is this is more of a 3d image rather than a flat 2d image (butt will have to go back because might me misremembering the style of the ‘photo’ Barbara showed)

        May 3, 2019, 8:28 am | #

Just did a quick comparison (http://wapsisquare.com/comic/from-the-archive/), and apart from the lighting, and a paintjob on the front balcony and side alcove window-thingies, it looks the almost identical
If you go by the changes already mentioned, then Pickle is technically correct: it is different, sort of

It is, and that is what is creepy about it. Barbara’s picture was 50+ years old, and from what she said it was clear that no one lives there or even go there – there is no way it should look as – well pristine as it doed

The gingerbread one was Timberline Lodge from the film..

In the miniseries, the Overlook hotel was filmed at The Stanley Hotel, the real life hotel Stephen King wrote about when he conceived the idea for the original story.

It’s a little industrial for my tastes. Too much like a hospital ward building (I was a security guard at an abandoned hospital complex when I was 18-20). Image processing was cool though. The fog feels real.

To quote the reply from the comments section from an old comic, where a reader asked why a character had been lost in a snowdrift, but several issues later, was found in a puddle: “The snow melted.”

Lets have some uber-eerie music to go with this image… any suggestions?

One classic bit of eerie: “Weird”, the signature theme from the old television show “One Step Beyond” (maybe the first TV series about the paranormal). No haunted mansion is complete without a theremin.
