More truer words could not have been written. I look back and think “I was stupid.” Sorry world.

Maybe is the extreme chemical imbalance in the brain – teenage hormones.

Believe the emphasis is on “don’t have a firm grasp”, (some) babies may have an instinctive grasp, but they tend to lose it (or get taught to ignore it) as they grow older

Could babies still contain the empathy obtained from a previous life or existence?

Nope. It’s innate. Till it gets squashed out by life.

        I think by instinct.

When babies are really babies. They have no clue what’s up. As kids get older, into the one or 2 year old range, I have noticed they get a lot shyer around people they don’t know. They get to understand well enough who their family is and who isn’t. It’s a survival thing to fear and pull back from the unknown when you’re small, clumsy and easily devoured by wild animals.

When children get older, I imagine there’s a new adventuring forth once more, but it’s still shaded by what went before as well as by what the child still simply doesn’t know. I think this is where empathy in the adult sense is learned.

        If it is learned.

A previous life – is as viable as any other explanation. Sure.

it’s all part of establishing dominance or a pecking order. people innately need to know who is in charge, and who they are in charge of. the problem comes when kids are taught “never ever ever fight back”. if everyone is submissive, a pecking order isn’t established, and things escalate until one IS established. this is why kids today go WAY beyond what happened to kids 30+ years ago.

In a study they found people age 18 and under weren’t able to identify other peoples emotional state in pictures correctly a large amount of time, but by age 21 they were able to identify other peoples emotional state in pictures. Just goes to show that people are still emotionally growing up after age 18 to 21, even though a person might not change physical shape. Which is the reason why I don’t have a problem restricting people before age 21, ie drinking, smoking, etc. Frankly I really think people shouldn’t be allowed in the military until age 21.

      I’m pretty sure people are still emotionally growing up after ages 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 35, 55, … 85…
