Sleepiness post a night in the hospital is par for the course. I never had so little sleep as when I was in the hospital. I actually had a nurse wake me up to give me a sleeping pill. MORE THAN ONCE!
I’ll let you in on an awkward secret: Sometime around hour 9 of a 12-hour all-night shift, most nurses are operating entirely on routine, schedule and reflex. Their higher decision-making functions took a nap hours ago. 😛
The deal is that once the pill is prescribed, it’s a big pain in the ass for her if she doesn’t give it to me. She’s more interested in her convenience than mine. I complained to the head surgeon, and it stopped for one night, and then it started again.
Sleepiness post blow to the head is a bad sign.

And, on occasion, they may have a medical reason for the sleeping pill. Not always, but sometimes. Even if you are already asleep.
