Okaaaaaaaaaaaay, am I the only one getting a little uncomfortable where this is going? What a horrible choice to make, I really do not want to be in Shelly’s place, right now. Having to kill your best friend; and before anyone says, “but we do not know if she has to kill Monica”, just take a look at the “demonstration” again. I admit that I am no doctor, nor to I play one a TV, and neither have I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express, but does that really look survivable? I do not think so.

    depends.

If Monica is not actually mortal-human in the usual sense of the word, then all bets are off

Again, note phrasing: “…this is your fear…” – that is, what Shelly’s visualising having to do.

Pablo has (very carefully, i think) never said Shelly’s going to have to kill Monica.

I agree with this. We all know that Shelly will need to STAB Monica, I’m sure that it will be something that needs to put her out of commission for a while, but consider what Bud said. “Just don’t miss your mark” Now that has significance. It’s a window of opportunity and TIMING and LOCATION. We just have to wait and see.

Well, i think Bud was speaking in theatrical terms there, as much as anything else.

But even in theatrical terms, that phrasing emphasizes accuracy, in both timing and location.

Granted I’m having a hard time following the latest plot twists… need to go re-read the archives sometime… but if we’re going to assume the process doesn’t explicitly require Monica to die, perhaps only her blood is required? I think it’d fit with the ancient Aztec/Mayan (can’t remember which at the moment) style of the ceremony. That way she still gets stabbed, but not necessarily dead. Of course, so would human sacrifice, but I’d rather the solution not involve the death of one of our brave heroines.

First of all – no Monica = no Wapsi. Story always has been about her, always will.

Second: Shelly’s Demonette is doing the Worst Case Scenario with the little stabby knifey thingy. I would hope that Shel comes to the realization (as Monica did in her little tete-a-tete with Doubt in front of Tepoz way back here) that her demon is full of it with this little dramatization.

Yes, but this is shaping up to be a “Wrap up the story” story.

This could be a case of the comic ending with the main character’s final act of (involuntary) sacrifice.

        NOPE!!!

Check the date on this post.
This arc is drawing to a close (a great close), but…
The comic is going STRONG in 2020.

As for the pixie with the rack…

I think Shelly’s ‘demonette’ is unlikey to be full of it. Whatever made her kinda stamped Shelly and her personality etc a lot harder on her than demons tend to be.

That’s why I think she resembles Shelly as she would be in the Shining rather than a more abstract thing like Monica’s demons. I mean her Vanity is a walking corset!

Not too many happy endings when “schlup-thud” are involved. Of course, stabbed is usually a bad day guarantee, and if M has to die, double bad day. On the other hand, nobody says she’s gotta stay dead or how long dead she’s gotta stay to qualify, even if she’s gotta expire in the first place.

I think that made sense. Caffeine fading, Sleep soon, hope my demons aren’t floating next to the bed when I wake up. Seeya Mon(ica)day!

Shelly’s Jiminy-Cricket keeps stressing fear as part of this equation. As my Comanche Grandma used to say, “Only bad people have anything to fear from ghosts.” Maybe she could get some advice from a family elder?

I may have to send a Comanche dictionary along, with a language cd. I gotta tell ya, there’s nothing like getting chewed out in Comanche. Ms Wahnee needs to be able to put someone in their place using the proper tounge.

Her Conscience is showing her what she fears she will have to do, not necessarily what she will have to do.

As much as you guys speculation is more or less accurate, I’d still like to consult this with Jin, though, considering we had taken Brandi’s book, which had been disproven by Tina, to be null and void.

And thanks to this comic, i hate weekends…

I’m reminded of the bloodletting scene in Pirates of the Carribean. All they do is slash the girl’s palm and annoint a coin with blood. And, it’s an AZTEC(Mayan, etc.) coin. Hmmm…..
Anyway, everyone assumes the girl will die. But she doesn’t. Just donates a blood sacrifice.
But, then, Paul has seen that movie. And Paul loves twists. And probably bearclaws.

So she could hold it over the bed and let the head fall.

The blocking that I had in my had were actually pretty detailed to keep the various frame angles straight. The wall (not connected to the bed) is on the girl’s right side. No room for the head to clear the bed. The wall that the bed is attached to is behind Shelly. Assuming the girl is part of Shelly, she’s right handed and stabbed the head with her right hand, passing it off to her left hand to drop it off the bed to the floor.

This is sure a demonic conscience: telling her to stab a friend in the head, likely kill her to save the world.

I think I’d rather have Jimminy Cricket.

I just can’t imagine how detailed and how much a pain in the ass it’d have to be to draw Jiminy Cricket with a tiny Monica head, stabbing it, and then letting it fall off the knife. It also wouldn’t have the same visual affect as life-sized-fake-Monica head stabbing does.

True. And, as has been pointed out, these are her fears, not necessarily what will be required in the moment.

OTOH, Shelly was specifically chosen as M’s friend for this role. So the reluctance and her personal sacrifice seem important.

Re-reading this I appreciate the little details — like the fact that the blood ended up on CLG’s t-shirt.
