Curious, will Amanda get any “ghostly” after images in her images when she takes her shots with M at the Museum?

Oooh, Sra Guadalupe in the background there? Interesting. :)

If Tepoz is around, it won’t be a ghostly image – he’s solid, just two feet tall. But, she already knows about Tepoz. Jin or the other GG’s, or Phix – pretty and solid, too. I mean, pretty solid….

Dunno. Amanda’s never really met them in-person, only 3rd-person. And I don’t think Monica’s chatted enough to where one could say, “Oh, she’s talked so much about you, I feel as if I know you already.”

Oh, and will “Yummy Tea” ever find out who exactly Abuela’s been talking to?

La Virgen has appeared (not supernaturally) many times in the coffee shop. The former Tina now run by demons – I’m assuming – is at least part Mexican based on her full name, being in Mexico for Monica’s accident, the Guadalupe picture, the papel picados hanging from the ceiling (visible in the first panel), and the Aztec designs on the counter.

Monica is really cute in panel 2.

She needs to play it cool, it’s not uncommon for anthropologists to do ethnographies and studies that have a video or photographic element.

This is not a nudge. This is a good, hard shove. Tina is forcing the issue. It’s obvious that the library work Monica wants to do is in Phix’s library, and she doesn’t want to drag Amanda into that shadow world.

Right. Yesterday, Tina twisted Monica’s words (about it being boring) around and used them against her. At this this point, Monica should know that Tina won’t back down easily.

An immortal gynosphinx who has not been out of the house in over 10,000 years, shape-shifted into the form of a two-meter tall, blonde, middle-aged, yet shapely librarian … Monica’s boss doesn’t stand a chance, but at least he’ll die happy!

Monica doesn’t have to go to the Phix lib. this particular day. She can just go to the regular one, find the dullest book of which she knows (make sure it has no pictures), and pretend to be completely absorbed in it, ignoring Amanda all the while. It wouldn’t take long for Amanda to become bored witless and bug out. Well, that’s what one might do in the real world to get rid of unwanted company. Things are, of course, different in the Waspiverse.

The dialog today seems a tad stilted.

In Panel One, Monica seems to be so shook she’s starting to sound “Hispanic” (a lot like the English dialog in some episodes of “Yenny”, or Ricky Ricardo trying to get out of taking Lucy to the club where he’s working), but Amanda’s final sentence just sounds a little off, somehow.

“… a photo essay about you … ” or “… on you … ” would be more what i’d expect someone to say.

Of course, she’s Paul’s character, and what he says she says is what she says…

Did you forget Monica is Mexican-American and fluent in Spanish as well as English? I’d say she’s allowed to sound as latina as Paul writes her, it’s still within character.

That’s exactly what i meant. Since she spent a goodly part of her childhood (if not all – has Paul ever said?) in Mexico, i would expect her to periodically get a little Googie Gomez-sounding when shook.

Paul probably knows how photographers talk, given his previous career, though.

Hey gang – Pablo has said it’s okay to put i online as long as it has a copyright notice ont – so, anyone who wants to can download large (and i mean large – the larger is about 1.5Meg) versions (identical except for size) of my “Pablo’s Angels” mashup from yesterday’s strip.

The larger of the two is 2048 x 1536.

The smaller is 1024 x 768. (I scaled it to fit my 1024 x 768 desktop without having to be stretched or shrunken any further.)

Three things in the back of my mind:

    1) What is Katherine up to? Last thing we heard she was trying to find an adventure for Monica. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was some sort of interaction between her and Amanda in the near future.

    2) How much has Amanda already figured out? She already knows a little about Tepoz. She was also around the first time Monica spoke in the glyph language, where it was hinted that Monica might have accidentally made the groom and bridesmaid disappear. Who knows, she might have some abilities she has been hiding from everyone else.

    3) What is Jin doing? Well, Maya and the others, too, but especially her.

      2. Knowing more about Amanda now, I would think that she probably thought Monica was joking and was playing along.

Glyph language – Eh, I can kind of see that though her windows were rolled up when Monica caught her thumb in Amanda’s car door. Although, maybe she thought it was the equivalent of Yosemite Sam’s, “Rackin’ Frackin’,” cursing.

I don’t think it was hinted that Monica made the groom/bridesmaid disappear. They were off fooling around, the bride thought what Monica was saying about her thumb was sexual.

    Maybe a Kirilian photographic essay?

Otherhand, Amanda might need to be at the museum, so the next Event can occur.

    Or, just for impending slapstick.

Lordie, maybe we are in for a variation of my May 3rd scenario! Wouldn’t it be funny if they end up in the Library, to find Phix already there with Dr. Fields?

Monica seems to have made up her mind that Amanda shouldn’t be told about the chimera, Mayahuel, or the events of the last month. I wonder why? Does she simply have Amanda slotted away in a pigeonhole labeled Do Not Expose To Supernatural Events? Or are there other reasons?

It’s a well-established fact that supernatural events will not occur if any evidence can be produced to support them. Skeptical inquiry seems to solidify reality, making such events difficult to produce. Thus, I would expect Amanda’s own mind-set to prevent her from seeing Monica poiting or Tina’s eyes as Christmas ornaments hanging in caves.

As a photographer with a “photographer’s eye”, she will see what any camera would, and with a narrow field of view (imho). Remember, Tina has her pegged as an ordinary, no froo-froo type, so she may see only this reality, and no other.

Whoops – i accidentally posted this on yesterday’s comments:

Got to wondering today. If Monica tries to keep the … unusual … aspects of her life separate from the … mundane … aspects, as she seems to be (ultimately, i’m sure, unsuccessfully, given Nudge’s meddling) here, what if Shelly’s new boyfriend is the same blonde cop that got the Full Treatment from Bud?

He’s inevitably gonna meet Shelly’s friends, i figure.

And if he is, he’s Very Likely to remember Bud…

Is he the same guy – or just another tall blonde Viking type?

    See what you think…

I certainly looks like Justin in both, but then, a lot of Paul’s folk are difficult to tell apart. I mean, you have to put Phix and Topeztecal side by side and look hard to notice the difference. And Monica – after months of reading this strip, I still am not sure what color her eyes are.

Please, Please, PLEASE let Amanda go to the library with Monica. I’d like to hear how Phix’s “tour” went at the museum, and see Amanda’s reaction to being excluded from all the supernatural adventuring. Her aura clearly spoke to Tina of no-nonsense conservatism, so of course Nudge was going to try and see how some excitement can be brought into her life…
