    geeze, sounds like my dad,

“Man, that was quite a spill you took down that hill. Especially into the river with all those large rocks. Tell me son, is the bike ok?”

Hehe. Her dad calls her Shelly Bean. My uncle used to call my little cousin Jillian “Jilly Beans” but it has since been shortened to simply “Beans.” It’s really funny to watch the look on people’s faces who don’t know the story behind it.

hmm, I’ve wondered each time I read this strip if the room number was important… I’m not a religious person, but 3:16 is a verse about being born again, which fits with Shelly right now.

There are no coincidences in the Wapsi-verse!

Which book? John 3:16 is the verse of god so loved the world he gave his only son that who so ever beleives in him shall not perish but have everlasting life (give or take depending on version/ translation).

I’m not Christian but grew up trying to be Lutheran and anytime I see 3:16, 316, even 31:6 in any form that verse flies around my head for a minute.

I’m a very nominal Catholic, and was a physics and math major at university. When I see ‘316’ I think sqrt (10).

I’m in Canada – so we don’t see ‘receptionists’ at the hospital. You find the floor and ask a nurse at the nurses station where to find the patient. So is the girl in the second frame a receptionist? Because I don’t care where you get your health care – no nurse is dressed like that!

I’d say receptionist/information desk attendant. Most US hospitals (that I’ve been in) have some sort of desk at the entrance to each inpatient ward (or wing if they’re all in the same part of the building) to direct visitors and to help reduce unwanted and/or forbidden vistors (like flu/cold going to the oncology ward). Nurses also don’t tend to wear a headset.

There’s a front desk at most of the (Canadian) hospitals I’ve been in, though it’s usually staffed by volunteers (who can wear whatever they like).
