I’m not quite up to Monica’s level but I do understand the need for this. I can buy the right size in stores but there is a feeling that they don’t quite get it… swimsuits are even worse.

My mom made a hobby out of modification of clothing for women, (mom and two sisters), none of whom could wear most ‘off the rack’ clothing. Made us boys in our jeans and tees feel left out.

The trick with swimsuits is to find the kind where you buy the bottom and the top separately. Then buy a small bottom and a large top. That’s what I do

the biggest problem with suits is that I am a lifeguard and one time competitive swimmer, as a Lifeguard if I want a guard suit I have a much more limited selection and guard shops are not always the most accommodating. Otherwise I totally agree, most swimsuit manufacturers this will work for, guard suits… not so much.

Actually replying to Lis’s 2011 comment (too many layers down).

My wife is the same way, but she wants the guard/racer style even though she’s not a lifeguard anymore (rather intelligently, she doesn’t want one of those open-backed one-pieces to suddenly slip off the top in a wave).

I wear my Irish heritage on my skin, I freckle or I fry so I tend to avoid sun exposure as much as possible. I’ve found competitive swimwear to be some of my favorite swimsuit styles (I also like the looks of Lifeguard suits for women, but don’t want to create confusion, since I have no training there.) Recently I’ve threatened to look into a Burkina. because I’d have less skin to have to worry about burning in the sun.
