I’ve had my hybrid for several years so I don’t know if they are completely gone from the market but they were there about 7-10 years ago. but you are right it is perfect for getting me from point A to point B and for seeing the sites

‘Tis a problem with modern bikes: they are built for mountains or speed, not for comfortable cruising or exercise.
Have hybrids disappeared from the marketplace? If not, look into those.
