It’s interesting that Atsali says this about succubi, considering that she’s half succubus herself and we learn later that Wapsiverse succubi aren’t evil and don’t suck the life out of people, but perhaps she isn’t fully aware of her heritage yet at this point, or perhaps there is more than one kind of creature commonly called a succubus.
Bud’s statement that all mythology has a kernel of truth is a way of stating the concept of euhemerism, the idea that myths and legends come from retellings and embellishments of real historical events or people. But in the Wapsiverse, those original events and people might also be paranormal, just different.
I was gonna say, later on this comic sort of shift gears, becoming a story about the whole paranormal society that lives outside human awareness, thousands of different pairs, just living their lives, including if I’m not misremembering, several examples of succubae, presented as relatively relatable decent people.
When a being with an incredible amount of life behind itself begin to collect favors, then both it’s enemies and allies are in neck-deep… Let’s call it “trouble”.
