Oh my god, the bow is so cute!
Dunno how much I like the hairstyle, though.

Her new hairstyle is WAY better than the Wednsday Addams look she had goin’ on for so long.

Yeah, she’s got a Bettie Page look going on now.

Actually, I think her old look was inspired by all the dead wet girl ghosts that haunt so much of Japanese horror cinema, e.g. The Grudge and The Ring, to cite two that were remade for Western audiences. And her current look is MUCH more appealing IMO.

Both looks are appealing to me. I’ve always had a thing for the Wednesday Addams types, and this new look is just adorable on her.

Also, she raises a valid point in the last panel. How can you call yourself a true scientist if you’re unable to entertain new and strange possibilities?

People often get skepticism confused with closed-mindedness. Skeptics will hear out new ideas and reject them if evidence does not support them. Some ideas take less time to reject than others…

A good scientist, like a good debater, should be thinking up all the reasonable possibilities that haven’t been mentioned. Since Katherine has taken the position that the carving is likely about the calendar machine, Monica should be pointing out the more mundane possibilities. She shouldn’t completely ignore Katherine’s idea, but being skeptical about the connection is perfectly rational.

Maybe when they built the temple, the cog was not yet free–so it had to be added later…

She has a point in the last panel. Monica has poited to the Lost Library of Alexandria to have a chat with a sphinx, has golems living in her house, and has physical representations of her personal demons. And yet she’s somehow a skeptic.

It’s called cognitive dissonance. Does miracles for combining two completely opposite view points (in this case reality and what Monica thinks reality ought to be)

Being a skeptic is not even cognitive dissonance. The calendar machine is older than the temple. The fact that the carving is much newer than the temple suggests it -might- not have anything to do with the machine -or- the temple. Doesn’t mean one shouldn’t check it out, but it is best not to get one’s hopes up.
