I really love how Catherine shifts gears without missing a beat. She goes straight from casual “hi girls, I’m home” to seeing one of the girls hurting and listening. She doesn’t even bother asking how Castela found out what she now knows.
Castela needs her mom and mom is there. The rest can wait.
I would say that Kath was probably the best person to adopt these two amazing children. She has a massive heart, an amazingly strong will, she knows how it feels to be alone even in a crowd because you are different, and she has the connection to keep them safe in addition to her own well-trargeted mama bear instincts.
Unfortunately, you cannot unlearn what you have learned. But mom hugs do help.
