    Not bad. Light barely crosses a few hydrogen atoms in a billionth of a nanosecond.

      I wonder if that’s a cross between a billionth of a second and a nanosecond . . . if he switched from billionth of a second to nanosecond and missed cleaning up.

    There can be a big difference between the two.
    Like as in”end of the world difference . . .”

    “Safely”? Define “safely”. For whom? At what distance? When working correctly, a rocket can take one or more people to space safely, but it’s not safe to stand under the rocket when it launches.

    I don’t mean to be nitpicky, but whose safety is she worried about? And in what context?

      I mean, “Doesn’t generate ghosts or the next best thing,” would be nice.

      An alternate dimension Daylla (possibly multiples) got trapped in the beam created by the grid anchor and had to be rescued at great risk by Scarlette’s friend because noone bothered to take into consideration the movement of the various tectonic plates of the Earth’s crust. This also created a crossover slip of dimensions resulting in phenomenon commonly applied to ghosts that was only noticed because a group of Middle Schoolers wanted to play at ghost hunting. This started Scar thinking about what else the adults might have missed and how dangerous it might be.

    “Umm, yes, it’s true that the first generation of this technology was originally deployed by a Nu Gui who used it to trick an entire civilization into confinement, torture, and madness. It worked perfectly back then, and it’s even better now.”

    Meaning, I’m going to put this device under a different kind of stress… *sound of eyes getting big*

    “Waste products? Oh, like pollution? No, we’ve got no problems with pollution. Well, we did have a worry in the ’70s about whether we were polluting some otherworldly realm, but an examination at the time showed that any particulate emissions generated by the occasional incursion attempt were being spread thinly across the infinite multitudes of of dimensionality by the transdimensional conduit.”

    ah yes. Working As Designed, does not always mean Fit For Purpose. A flashbang grenade may perform exactly to spec, but I would not want it wired to my doorbell :{

    Eons old technology and safety seldom seem to go hand in hand.

      The Mapini suspension capsules were ancient technology… and look what happened anyway!
