    Hmm. Either Bud refused the job strongly enough, or the school insisted on having faculty chaperones (probably a requirement if this is a school-sanctioned trip, I suppose).

      Well, if your kids were going on a school trip, you’d want an actuall representative from the school there, wouldn’t you?

      Have we skipped ahead to the trip, or are they just “adult supervising” the club meeting?

        They are probably in the faculty lounge

        Kinda like whatRBZ said: Bud may be there to provide security, butt they would still need someone from the school administration

    It’s hard to tell whether they mind or not. I can’t read it on their faces.

    “Six Phases Of A Big Project” is very relevant here.

      Six? . . . the version I know calls for seven.

    Doing well on a difficult project in a competent bureaucracy means you’ll get any similar projects, so long as you continue to do well.

        I believe she’s a T’chah. Just as vampires tend to go into law enforcement, and werewolves are mostly artists and writers, the Cthulhu-like t’chah usually end up working as educators of some sort. Google-search “Mrs. Edelson” for a well-known example.

        (Paul has not formally confirmed Valerie’s species, as far as I know.)

        Re: Dave. Gee I feel sorry for Valerie. One of the things that aborted my further education (not the only thing) was that the things I was interested in would involve becoming a teacher—and I never ever wanted to teach.

      @Dave
      That was not a kind thing you just did… it took me a good 5 minutes to spot the pun.
      Tee-chah, right?

      Why, yes, that’s how it’s often pronounced (he said innocently, buffing his nails and knowing that his work here was done for the day.)

      They’ve been around for a long time, and you can trace their presence in human culture through their effect on our languages. It even goes back to ancient Sumerian… “téš(-a)…sì-ke” means “to come together, to make agreement”, reflecting the role of the t’chah as negotiators. In Proto-Indo-European, “*teks” means “to fashion, to construct”, once again relating to the transmission of skills.

        So then, Val’s race was based in SUMER-time??? *rimshot*
