And this is why it’s best to save the heavy-duty cursing for when you absolutely need it for emphasis. The shock from using vocab outside of your normal arsenal makes others realize “holy carp, this is important!”

Yeah, what RoyD said. If every other word you use is the “F” word—and I’ve known a couple of guys who did just that—it loses all force.

In the Army, and probably the military in general, the use of colorful language is so pervasive that it just fades into the background.
Then when something really important makes its way into the conversation what is said comes out as Loud…Clear…and markedly Unembellished.
It seems that if it is _really_ important, clarity is demanded.

Agreed, the overuse of colorful metaphors really dilutes their impact when said impact is needed.

Not to lessen your point, but overuse of any word or phrase has the potential to dull its impact.
For example, what would you interpret if someone described something as “nice” or “fine”? You’d most likely assume they think it’s meh, rather than pleasant.
And “sorry” has virtually lost all its currency, due to its misuse by people who are apologising for getting caught having done wrong rather than the wrong itself. Or, most recently, people who are only apologising for having to make the apology.

A fair point RBZ, although I was more referring to this particular situation instead of language in general. I concede the point and agree.

Scarlet blue screened ‘stela with her outburst.😁😄😅😛

For an eternal multidimensional being separating all different realities, Cass sure gets blue screened easily. Part of her charm 😆

Ya know, it occurs to me that Castela’s response might just as likely be related to her experiences with “mom voice”…that said, I love how the cogent issue about the anchor grid is delivered almost matter-of-fact-ly in the last sentence…

It’s nice to see you are getting into the flow of things again. To be honest I had stopped checking the site except for once a month maybe. Imagine my surprise (and pleasure) to see you had resumed work on Wapsi Square again. It will be a pleasure to continue reading your work again.

Yeah, for what it’s worth, I am happy to see you back. Long time follower; big time fan.

Thank you for all your effort.

When even straight-laced Scarlet starts swearing, you know SOMETHING is about to hit the six-bladed industrial fan…
