In the old Skylab space station they needed a way to separate liquid waste from solid waste in zero g for recycling. The method they came up with was to vacuum it through a chamber with a spinning propeler. Solid waste would hit the propeler and be flung out to a collection chamber, the liquid waste would pass through untouched to the recycler.

There was a blueprint of the system circulating with a note written on it that said ‘so the shit is SUPPOSED to hit the fan.’

I’m confused. So, now the shit hitting the fan is a good thing?

think she’s learning that its best to be honest up front with the people who can best help you… if this were a sitcom, we’d have a half an hour of wacky hijinks when the lie unravels and she tries everything to keep it from getting out and in the end it all comes crashing down and as they survey the smoking ruins of the univers, Bud says, See, if you had just told me the truth in the first place we could have prevented this!

Ed, what you’ve said here is an accurate assessment, and proof of just why kids ought to watch at least some situation comedies when they’re growing up, even if they loathe the genre. It’s too important a life lesson to omit. Lies are a lot of work to keep up (it’s not the investment, it’s the maintenance), and they usually fall apart in the end, and hit you in the head.

I used to tell people that lying was too much work . . . trying to keep the lies straight.

When you bend the truth it’s hard to keep it straight!!!

Sooooo…Is that to say that when there’s a hole in the fabric of reality there needs to be a Pickle to plug it up?

Telling a lie is like shitting out a snake: once it gets out far enough, it’ll turn around and bite you on the arse

When things like this happen, I just remember the famous words of Benjamin Franklin: “When in doubt, tell the truth. It will amaze your friends and confound your enemies.” And regarding keeping things secret: “Three can keep a secret, if two of them are dead.”

That’s a heck of a thing for someone who – no matter what powers or strengths she may have, is still, in the last analysis, only a teenage girl – to realise is her responsibility.

yeah it sounds kind of like a hive mind type thing. each “body” does have a personality but they are all connected to the whole when they need to tap into full power.

Just one? I imagine there are a dozen at least – you’ve opened up a fertile area for research!

Let’s see… for starters, we can say that Castela is Schrödinger’s catastrophy (Dave places a box containing something into the Pun Jar).

The more she learns about who she is, the less she knows about what she’s about to do.

And, of course, it’s all quite appropriate: she’s a Blackthorn, her body is composed of vines and tendrils, and so naturally she’s entangled with everything!

“It’s not enough to be able to lie with a straight face; anybody with enough gall to raise on a busted flush can do that. The first way to lie artistically is to tell the truth — but not all of it. The second way involves telling the truth, too, but is harder: Tell the exact truth and maybe all of it…but tell it so unconvincingly that your listener is sure you are lying.”
