Last Day of Junior Year

Here are the gals (Castel, Scarlet, and Daylla) at 17 years old. Surely they’ve all grown a bit wiser, right? Well, Cass and Scarlet have turned into a pair of pseudo-sukeban, if that answers anything.
Here’s hoping Scarlet was never the target of another girl’s envy.
Well, SOMEONE hit a growth spurt. I didn’t expect Scar to take levels in Barbarian.
Wait, Day is the one with the brown hair, correct? Stela never had eyes like that… did she?
I have a question. Would Castela use makeup or would she just glamour the makeup. Because IIRC, there is no actual surface for the makeup to go on.
I suspect that it would depend on how tight-knit she is in human-seeming mode. Enough branches that are small enough and close enough together could emulate a solid surface.
I also remember the sequence when she went to the anime con years ago where she appeared to have makeup on as part of the overall costume.
They’ll break a lot of hearts. And a lot of bones.
Not so sure about “surly”, but surely they must’ve grown wiser over two years… right? 😉
Don’t call them “Shirley”!
New hairstyle for Cass, too.
“How big is Scarlet?” “How small is Timothy?”
“And does he own a stepladder?”
Timothy wouldn’t need a ladder if she lets him climb her. Besides we haven’t seen what’s happened to him. They could look each other in the eye now.
‘Course by now, with so much time passed, who knows who’s with who?
How about rappelling gear?
And Timmy’s gleefully singing “GLORY, GLORY WHAT A HELL OF A WAY TO DIE!”
Woah, I know that Cass and Daylla are on the short side but when did Scar become an amazon?
Perhaps she’s been having lots of “Snu snu” lately…
Scar has demonstrated over the years that she is happy to give him a lift whenever needed.
You know this is their school-mandated human appearance, right? Just checking. You know that Paul’s gonna give us the full Magilla- probably sometime this week!
Oooh, and I just realized- check out Scar’s knees. Damn! Now my imagination is running in crazy circles!
Well, she still has to get to eye level to kiss Timothy…
She could simply lift him up
Yeah, I was wondering about the knee and elbow scrapes too which sent my mind into … wondering mode.
I had wondered if Scarlet got recruited to the Gryphon High Women’s Basketball Team…
I love how Daylla didn’t get the memo about making a badass, scary-lady photo. She’s just full-on “eto …bleh”
I also wanted to point out how cool the art from a technical standpoint is! I love the 90’s anime-y feel of the colouring, the VHS-like glow along the black lines and the lighting in general! Really nostalgic, takes me back to the old bootleg Slayers and Tenchi Muyo tapes I used to watch a hundred times (before the lucky meeting point of raising download speeds and shrinking video sizes).
Vert der ferk, I got caught up…
Unless Cass has developed an immunity to “MOM VOICE” doubt that she has gone full deliquent girl
Indeed. Scarlet has pretty much finished every class she could possibly take and has just become bored and jaded, and she’s run out of shits to give. She has taken her growth spurt and blossoming powers from her Kitsune dad’s side of the family to take her frustrations out on school bullies. Cass just likes the tough-girl look and tries to keep Scarlet out of too much trouble.
Cass as the voice of reason? We ARE in trouble! /jk
But in all seriousness, it sounds like Cass has taken up the role of “trusted advisor lieutenant” in regards to Scarlet’s tendency towards leadership. Daylla… well, I guess we’ll see what the full group dynamic is as the story unfolds, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Daylla’s the fun-loving troublemaker of the group, who Cass also has to try keeping out of (too much) trouble.
I had been thinking that Scarlette’s hair would look set up to symbolize 9-tails.
Have to go with an uh oh for the idea of a bored Kitsune, much less one at Scar’s level of intelligence. I hope Bud remembers to put her on projects that tickle her interest before she goes off to create her own mischief.
If that’s the case, it’s time to start solving cases which the police can’t handle.
I gotta ask how much time has passed since the day of the 1st page and this strip? (Ignoring the timewarp fudgery in the middle)
Hmm, believe it started in-world around… 2010? Fairly sure the Calendar Arc coincided with the Mayan Prophecy bollocks
All depends if they have skipped forward a few years so Paul can slowly sync-up again (instead of having them slip further behind the times)

Just gotta say: less animation, more comic!
(I mean, sure, the animations are cool, but not if we have to wait *months* for an update. Maybe do a few hours a week on the next animation, while still putting out the regular comic at least once a week? I dunno, the nearest I’ve come to this is writing computer code vs documenting the same.)
Much as I’d like to see the strip resume, I’m mindful that there’s more than twenty years of hard work in the Archives to be read at leisure. That’s quite a bit for an avocation that seems to attract artists who do it for two, three years, and then stop in the middle of storylines. I’m grateful for what we have. (And the Patreon pictures are great, too.)
“Less animation, more comic!”
Definitely agree!
For writing a graphic comic for — what, 20 years or so? with the stories and art work that goes into it for —- what, 20 years or so? with the development of all the characters and introduction of so many more characters, and the depth of mythos which this comic has been giving us for — what, 20 years or so? several times a week….. many hours and hours of work every week…. I’m just going to say, Paul, thank you for what you’ve given to us all these years with the massive amount of work that has gone into this, and you go ahead and do whatever you want. You had me at ‘hello’.
There is no upvote button here, but
yeah. What you said.
I wish there was an upvote button because…yeah. This. I understand the trying of a new creative medium, and how long he’s been doing this comic (cheers for him)…but I like to read a comic, I honestly skip over the animations and don’t watch them. *shrugs*
Hi Paul! I am seriously looking forward to the continuing story of Wapsi Square. Here’s hoping that we can get into that real soon!
I get that it’s stylized but I’m legit weirded out by the fact that Castel has a waist smaller than her calves, and also seems entirely devoid of a pelvis.
… You do remember that Stela is made up of branches, right? Everything about what you are seeing is just an illusion
I hope Paul is back up and running again by the time I make it through the archive again. Best wishes man
Did Dietzel get poited to Rio? https://www.facebook.com/LADbible/videos/555721683009944/
Three months since this last posting. Nine months if we go all the way back to the last story posting. Should we be concerned? I’ve dropped a few comics after a year of no updates, and we’re getting close to that.
Paul’s edit to the image description post says “no”… 😛
Well, that makes me happy. But take it easy, you hear?
Huzzah!
Looking very much forward to May 1.
Looks like a change in art style….or am I mistaken?
Maybe? Looks similar to me.
Perhaps it’s just the colours. I never thought of Castela being that brown. Or having purple hair…
Possibly it’s further practice in holding her human form…always seemed Our Gal Castela was kinda on the pale side…and, given her, er, natural state, I would wonder whether a tan would make her brown or maybe darker green…
Cass’ hair has always been purple. =) https://wapsisquare.com/comic/where-did-you-go/
I’d chalk it up to digital vs. analog coloring – if you compare Paul’s marker colored pics on eBay with his digital art there’s a (excuse the pun) marked difference…
I can’t help wondering how Scarlet (of all those in her class) is getting away with wearing her school uniform the way she is in this picture 🤔
