    Knowing Mon, she’s not.

I have vague recollections of a speech from Monica – possibly pre-calendar machine – that was along these lines.

first time that i can recall that the characters break the fourth wall… as well as doing it in a seemingly fully-aware-that-they’re-breaking-it way too…

Sorry, but how are they breaking the fourth wall? No one seems to be acknowledging or addressing the readers (us)….and I don’t think they’re looking at “us” in the first panel, just looking ahead.

        I was wondering myself.

Granted, Cricket is facing us as she talks. This is a problem for movies, TV, stage, as well as cartoons. You want to see everyone’s face, but people don’t normally turn their backs on one another when they talk. You have to make allowance for artistic liberty.

Or it could be that they are walking down the hallway in the school and going backwards is a bad idea!

Eh, I’d call it “leaning on the fourth wall” Seeing as everything still makes sense in-universe.

I think you’ll find the Cricket is side-hugging Astali and Nadette in Panel one. Paul had to squeeze her in front to make room for the word balloons.

    Nadette’s eye is better.

She forgot it was supposed to be black and dropped back to base human form.

As the lil’ Fey might say; “That fucker’s not a Fokker; its a Messerschmitt…”

      … And that Messa-shit is not a Messerschmitt, it’s a Fokker. (c8

      Why wouldn’t she? o_O

Well, she did get punched in the head. Twice. Not everyone could take that as calmly and rationally as Nadette did.

Hey – she got one good punch in, too, remember.

One more Godawful pun like that Barnowl, and I’m sending Cricket to YOUR house! (and when she’s done, you’ll be needing the PARA-medics) 😛

so…Nadettes eye healed quickly obviously she’s not human so thats normal right?

I like Fairportfan’s theory that she’s shapeshifted it back to normal. So she may still have a bruise there, it just doesn’t show.

It’s been roughly one minute since she stepped out of the clinic with a black eye. That’s pretty snappy, even for a para.

I take it back. There’s been a shift in dramatic time. Somewhere in there Atsali got calmed down and recombobulated. On the other hand, the eye was already better in the previous installment.

this made me think of my soccer coach, whose entire strategy was “Don’t fuck up” losing at halftime? “you guys are fucking up” winning? “see what happens when you don’t fuck up?”… he was only our coach for one season.

in fact, given that her human form is an illusion, how did she ever have a visible black eye to begin with? She had to have incorporated it into the illusion on purpose, probably to make her girlfriend feel guilty so she can get some snuggles later.

No, Dette is a shapechanging, meaning that this is not an illusion

        May 20, 2016, 11:15 am | #

Yeah, it’s kind of standard in fantasy, unless otherwise stated, that shapeshifters physically change from one form to the other. Cricket’s form is supposedly a glamour (illusion), but she interacts with the world as if she actually changes size. This is probably artistic license, because it would be too big a pain to draw her as looking big while actually small.

I’d really like to turn that first panel into a t-shirt print

It may be the former sailor in me, but I find her casual use of profanity somewhat appealing. XD
